I think some of the most amazing winter sports played in the Olympics are the ones done on ICE!! Speed skating, figure skating and of course, a Canadian favourite, HOCKEY!! This challenge will have you thinking about the surface those awesome sports are played on...........the ICE RINK!! It starts out as a beautifully smooth and shiny piece of ice, but AFTER the competitors have performed or played their games, the rink is all scored and 'groovy'!! And what technique makes our glossy paper look scored and 'groovy'??? Faux Linen, of course!!!
Your challenge is to include the Faux Linen technique somewhere on your layout!! If you've never done this technique, go here to get a tutorial: Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers Keep in mind that darker colours show up better.
Please also use knotted ribbon on your pages and as a bonus, use some metal embellishments!! Now go to it!! She Scraps, She SCORES!!!!!!!!!!
Does the Faux Linen just have to be on one thing? Never did this before but looks like a neat technique.. Will have to do this one when we get in from church.

You can do the faux linen technique on smaller pieces of glossy cardstock like I did (check out my samples) and use them to attach other embellishments to or to stamp a title on. Or you can do a whole background page with the technique. It's really up to you how you want to do it, but it must be included in your layout somewhere. HTH!
Finished the faux linen technique...although it doesn't look as good as the example pages..now to find the matching ribbon
I'm sure you're just being hard on yourself Pattie. I used a coarse sandpaper for mine so the 'grooves' are probably fairly deep and pick up the ink a little better. I'm sure yours will be GREAT!!
Peggy, I love your pages!! It is so funny, you are not going to believe it, but I am working on a challenge right now and my layout looks almost exactly like yours!!! I didn't do it intentionally.....HONEST!!
Kimmie! Great challenge, my dear!!!! I HATE HATE HATE the sound and feel of sandpaper on glossy cardstock, but I will get over it just so I can do this challenge!! *wink*

Getting tired. Yesterday I was doing DPS, today they've all been singles
I'm getting tired, too. Don't have any creativity left. :( I did the challenge before this one, but just didn't have to the energy to gather the stuff to do the faux linen. So I did something else instead.
But the page I did had a linen texture in the printed paper.
I will have to get back to this challenge and the remaining challenges later tonight.....DS is being ornery downstairs and DH wants to watch the Colts, which starts in a few minutes! So, I need to go be a mama for a while then I'll be back to finish the rest of the challenges!

Thanks Betsy!!! I hope you can get over your phobia, 'cause I REALLY want to see what you come up with for my challenge!!! Tee hee!!

That's okay Teresa! It's getting late, isn't it? Maybe you will feel all recharged tomorrow and can do it then!! I know I will be working away tomorrow before I go to work.
Here's mine, however the linen effect really didn't show up due to using an emery board. This was my son's K class field trip to Krispy Kreme Doughnut shop and end of year celebration.
