Floor OTT light - anyone have one?
I currently have an ancient OTT fold up desk top light but I’m considering one that sits on the floor instead, to save desk space. But the pictures make them appear top heavy and easily tip over. Does anyone have one? Does it tip easily?TIA

I have several in different parts of my house - by the desktop, and next to the sofa and chairs where I do needlework; I've had them for years and never had one tip over.

I currently use this one and have used a somewhat smaller one before. Both had weighted bases, which seem to me you would have to walk into it to knock it over. I pick it up or slide it out of the way while seated to open drawers and have never been concerned about tipping. I am a big fan of the floor lamps.

I have a folding Ott light on my desk which is very old. For one of my workstations I picked up a floor lamp at Home Depot. It makes a huge difference compared to my old pole lamp and not as expensive as an Ott lamp.

I've used OTT light table lamps for many years. But my favorite OTT light of all stands on the floor next to my stamping table. You don't "have to " use the magification if you don't need it. I use it a lot and love that it doesn't take up needed workspace on the table. And no .... it never tips ... weighted bottom stand.

I have an old one that sits on the floor, I love it. It never tips. I do have a few smaller ones too. They are good for crops. And I put one on the table when we are working on jigsaw puzzles.

My hubby and our daughter gave me an Ottlite floor lamp with the magnifier this evening for my b-day. It doesn’t fit in my craft space quite like I had pictured, so my hubby is gonna cut a space in my desktop so that the lamp can come up thru there and be right over the desk without losing much space. I’m excited to try it out tomorrow.

I’m afraid I have to differ from others a little in that my Ott floor lamp(s) with magnifiers can, and sometimes do, tip. Usually, this is a result of the arm with the light itself and/or the arm with the magnifier moving out of alignment with the base, which is somewhat oval with the “post” planted in the rear of the fat part of the oval. I remedy this by wedging the base under a piece of nearby furniture. My Otts are fairly old and newer ones may be better balanced...

I don't have an OTT light, but my hubby put a fixture in the ceiling over my work table. I have a light that hangs down, and the fixture is 27 inches above the table. Gives me plenty of light with just a 60W bulb.

This is the floor lamp I have: https://www.amazon.com/OBright-Dimmable-Pharmacy-Adjustable-Standing/dp/B07V5WWGDV/ref=sr_1_51?crid=221SIRCQD6VME&dchild=1&keywords=v intage+floor+lamp+black&qid=1608741013&sprefix=vin tage++floor+lamp%2Caps%2C231&sr=8-51 It is WONDERFUL! The dimmer switch didn't work, so I contacted the seller & they sent another one RIGHT OUT to me! I LOVE IT! I use it for my Sewing Table. I gave the extra one to my husband & he uses it for his work & he FELL IN LOVE with the lamp, as the lighting is SO GOOD! ;)<3

Since I'm pleased with this lighting at one of my workstations in the den I ordered another one for in my studio room. They're on sale till 12/23/20 at the Home Depot in my area.

Here's the one I got and absolutely love it. It has a very heavy base.

I have the wide area Ott Lite that clamps to your desk and it is awesome. It doesn't take up my desk space and gives a wide band of light. It has 3 different "mood" settings (from white to yellow light) and it has 5 levels of illumination. Here is a link of the one I bought from Hobby Lobby:

I have one and it doesn’t tip as long as the kids don’t mess with it. But if it was where my dog could reach it, I’m sure her mighty tail would be a problem!
My solution would be to tether it to your desk or the wall. Just get some webbing like they use on backpacks and bags. Get a colour you like! Wrap it around the lamp’s stand then secure to your desk. You could tie it to the leg, add buckles like a bag or dog collar has and clip it around the leg or even screw through the webbing directly into the desk or the wall (you might need an anchor). They screw right through webbing to tether some IKEA furniture.
