They are difficult to open and close when they are brand new. After opening and closing a few time, it becomes a little easier. Sometimes I rub wax paper on the parts that rub. Even if it does not help. it makes me feel better!
I had to replace a chocolate chip pad and the new one they sent was almost impossible to open.........I even considered taking a hammer to it. I finally took it to hubby when he was watching a baseball game (yawn) and asked him to just open and close it about 50 times for me. Don't know it he counted or not but it was definitely easier to open when he was done with it.
Now, I'm worried. I have the small square ink pads from Stampin Up which are easy to open. I just ordered my first large pad. I do not look forward to having a difficult stamp pad. At least there are some great suggestions on how to make it better. That eases my mind.
I noticed that with the last 2 new pads I ordered. It really annoyed me as it took so much time to try to get it to close straight and was totally impossible to open or close it without getting ink on my fingers. Something just clicked inside me and I decided that I had had it and those were the last 2 SU pads I was ever going to order. There are plenty of other options out there and I figured why not try them? I am thrilled with the Gina K pads I decided to buy to sample - No inky fingers.
They have always been hard to open and close. I hated it especially when they come off the track and putting the pad back together get me all full of ink.
What I really hate is pinching my fingers in the cases when closing them. I have had more pinched finger then I have on my hands! And I actually drew blood once!!!

This happened to me on one of the current in colors I ordered recently. It was the flirty flamingo, and I at least am thankful the other 4 colors were fine to open. I had to email my demo and get instructions as to how to get it to open. Seriously, it was that hard. I could not do it and neither could my husband. Apparently SU had had a problem with some ink pads, but hopefully this is not going to be an ongoing problem.

I just bought my first Stampin Up ink pad and like you, it will be my last. I absolutely hate how it opens and closes. Seems designed to be difficult.
I thought I noticed them being harder to open, thought it was just me
I have had some problems in the beginning but there is an easy fix I think. You can take a cotton swab with a little WD40 that has the silicone in it and run it down the tracks, and around the front. That should help. There are many inks on the market but I do like their inks. Especially their black. I hate their ink spots though
According to the WD40 website, it shouldn't be used around polycarbonate or clear polystyrene plastics.
So, I think I would be hesitant to use WD40 around my polymer stamps, clear blocks, my Misti or other stamping platform with clear plastics or any place where it is inadvisable to use petroleum based products..
I also am just tired of paying full price for something and then having to use a work around in order for the product to perform as it should. Why don't they just make it so it it works as advertised to begin with?

Just have to jump in with saying I love ink spot sizes, as they work better when I am inking up my stamps in the Misti. The large ink pads get ink on the lid of the Misti, so, I find the small size better.
sorry, I know that is really not what this thread is about.
