I recently watched a card making video (can't remember with whom) where she used the Xyron machine for a word die. I keep forgetting to use mine but tried it today for a word die and found that the adhesive was not only on the card stock part of the word but also across the openings of the letters. I was able to scrap it away but that seemed to lose the idea of using the machine to be quicker. Has this happened to anyone else? Maybe I need to bone fold the back of the transfer sheet before removing it? Any ideas? The adhesive was very 'stringy.' Thanks!
I rub the back of whatever I put through the Xyron with a bone folder. Plus, there’s usually a little gap one can see between the card stock and where the plastic sheet and the backing paper are stuck together. I run the bone folder over that space. It seems to help eliminate some of the sticky overhanging the edge of the card stock.
I broke my Xyron years ago and just never got around to replacing it. Fast forward to last year, I'm in HL and see a disposable 3 inch one and figure why not, I can use my coupon for it since they didn't have what I came for. After a few uses I realized that maybe the reason I never purchased a replacement was because of all the glue goobers, just ick. My subconscious knew I hated using the thing and the reality is once I expanded my glue repertoire I didn't miss Xyron. I am so glad it's a disposable, I will not be buying another.
...and yes I know have tried all the tricks, regardless of what you do will have glue bits to content with... again just ick.
Xyron makes a glue eraser. I have had success with it most of the time.

I have never had trouble with using my Xyrons. I have a 2.5" and a 5.5". I cut cardstock strips of those widths and run them through. Sometimes I put in short strips, sometimes I put in a half-page of cardstock. Then I place the die on the Xyron-ed strip and cut. I find Xyron the easiest of adhesives to use with word dies. Using glue it always seeps out the side, even if I'm conservative in application.
