Unmounted Backgrounds
For those of you who have unmounted your SU background stamps, do you have a block that is big enough for them and if you do where did you find it? I'm just too lazy to spend hours looking for a block big enough. THANKS

I have an acrylic block big enough for backgrounds that I bought from Cornish Heritage Farms several years ago. But I don't use it that much. Just place the BG stamp face up, ink it, put the paper on top, press with my hand or a brayer depending on the coverage I want, and I'm done!

I don't have a big block either, but I do have a piece of 1/4 inch plexiglass that is 5x6 that I had cut at the local glass store. It gives me a flat surface to put my rubber with ezmount on. I stamp my bg's like kstamper above as well.

I bought one BG stamp and because it was so bulky decided to not buy another one. I unmounted the BG stamp and cut the rubber down to a more manageable size for the 4.25x5.5 cards I make. Gave the block and case away to someone here on SCS for cost of shipping.
I just recently saw a post here where someone uses a crop-a-dile to cut polka dots from extra rubber to make a polka dot BG stamp. That's what I'll be trying out next.

I have an extra spacer block I never use ("C" block?) with my cuttlebug, so I just use that if I need a block bigger than what I have.
I don't even use a block with my BG stamps, just put it on the stamping surface and they're lots easier to clean unmounted!

That's a super idea!
I use a large block - I think it's from Stampendous. I bought it at my LSS a few years ago.

I have one that I had made by someone on eBay. I had it made even bigger than the stamp so that I had a lot of space to hold on to. A little overkill on my part but I like it.:-D

I'm thinking I will call the local glass shop in the morning to see what kind of plexi glass they have and how much it would cost.

I read somewhere on here that you can just use the sticker side of one of your wood blocks that you unmounted from. The side with the sticker on it should be smooth enough for the cling side of your stamp to stick to. So instead of having a large acrylic block to use for your background stamps, you'll have a large wood block.

I don't use a block - just the bare rubber - no ezmount either. Works great lay it right side up, ink it up, place your paper on top. Super easy to clean without anything on it too - you can run it under warm water.

Stores like Lowe's and Home Depot have acrylic sheets that might work too. It's what I store my unmounted stamps on. They cut it to whatever size you need for free.

I'm a huge fan of the larger sized Fiskars Stamp Press. While the grid printed on it is only 5 by 7 or so, you can stamp larger stamps with it. Placed on it diagonally, you could even stamp one of those 12" border stamps with it.
Not only is it nice & big... but it's extremely easy to position the stamps to the paper. I always get a nice impression, too... no partially-inked sections (or worse, the blobby areas). It always hits the paper parallel to the stamp for a perfect impression every time.
Seriously, the Stamp Press makes me sorry I ever invested in acrylic blocks because I never use them anymore. Check the link -- there's even a video demo.
HTH!
