Ohh, I think I know what I would do. Get some 2x4's build the appropriate size base, with cross supports attach some ''bun'' type feet (I've seen these at Home depot), paint white and attach your cubes. I think it would make it more finished looking, and keep it just a little off the floor. I know the dust bunnies in my house would find their way in my cubes in no time!!

Good ideas!
I have them on the floor right now, just messing with them and I guess if I have the ones with the 3 drawers ont he bottom, the dust bunnies wont find them as well;) It isnt much lower than my 3-drawer Sterlite storage conatiners.
But I love the idea of building a base for them...now to find someone that can do woodwork.
I just got three yesterday at 40% off and one more today with a 50% off coupon. I have them on the floor, stacked three high and the fourth on the floor next to that. I know I want three more. I do think keeping the drawer ones closest to the floor is a good idea, plus for whatever reason I feel it is more sturdy. I have a sore hand from all the tightening of the screws I did last night. I love them and can't wait to get organized!
I have several 15 x 15 from Target. I used them (stacked 2 high) as a base for a *desk* by placing a board on top. The board I had was deeper that the cubes, so my DH nailed a support board along the wall at the back and we pulled the cubes out to be even with the front of the *desktop*. I also have an extra cube that sits on top. And I put them directly on the floor. The drawers clear just fine!
Can someone post a pic or link with these storage cubes? I'm getting a stamping room in my new house and I'm deciding what to buy to decorate and organize.
I have them set up in a 7 wide x 3 tall arrangement. However, I'm adding one more stack of 3, so it will be 8x3 when I'm done. Mine sit directly on the floor and have for years. I have tile in my scraproom and have never had trouble with dustbunnies.
I made a standing height work table out of some book cases (target.com) and stacked two in the middle. I also used 2 stacked together and a file cabinet as a desk. You can see pictures here in my gallery:
I have 16--one that sits separately on set of casters that I keep my by (the original style) Xyron on, and slide under my work table. The other 15 sit on the floor (laminate hardwood).
My BEST advice is to really really think about what you will have in them, and put the least used things on the bottom. I have 3 of the divided 'slot' ones on the bottom, with the slots upright. These house my magazines and idea books, my lightbox, paper cutters, ScorPal, cutting mat, scrapbooks in progress . . . things I don't need to get out every time, or things that once they are out, they are out for a while. That way I'm not constantly going down into the bottom drawers/cubbies.
I LOVE my cube storage!

I used a white particle board shoe shelf to put my cubes on. I use the middle shelf for paper cutters, watercolor crayons - any of the "long" things I use. On the floor, I can slide small plastic baskets with "stuff". And most of my things are off the floor -- since I have my stamping space in a basement that flooded once!
I have four and love them! Mine are the crop in style ones so they are slightly larger. I just have them in two stacks of two. I want a couple more. I would have a bunch of them if I had the room, but my craft area is in our bedroom so I don't have much room.
I just got a bunch of these from M's on sale with gift cards I got for Christmas. I have only put 3 together so far (I highly recommend an electric screwdriver/drill). I have to wait until I get my Christmas tree out of here to set them up. But I also plan on putting them on the floor.
I bought some of each - I am not sure how I will organize things yet either, but I do know that I won't be putting the open slot ones on the floor as I have a cat that likes to chew paper!!! All of my magazines have chewed corners! (Maybe I shouldn't throw those on the floor beside my bed every night, huh??)

The larger screws that you use to put the cube itself together are a #2 Phillips head screw. The small screws that you use to put the drawers together are a #1 Phillips head screw. If you use those size bits in a drill with a screwdriver attachment, they go together easy peasy. ;)
I have one HUGE problem with these things....they smell VERY chemically.
I have a serious migraine.
Will the smell go away? They smell really fumey, idk how to explain it but it's kinda freaking me out.
I am really super sensitive to smells.
Dang it.
I have heard other people say that too. And they say that it does go awy. But I've never had that experience. And I'm SUPER sensitive to smells too.
Try putting some boxes of baking soda in your room. It absorbs smells without leaving any other odor behind. Or maybe even activated charcoal that is used in fish tank filters. Ground coffee (if you can stand that smell) is also pretty good as masking odors.
Sorry! Hope you find something that works for you.
Mine had the smell too. It wears off. I have mine as the shelves in a 4 x 8 rolling craft table. Built a nice base with wheels (to keep the area as versatile as possible) and put a melanine (you know, the white shelf boards)on top and it is wonderful. I have friends over to craft. Sits 6 fairly comfortably if we do not take out everything we own. Have central storage in the center on turning storage bins. Its working out great.
I have mine divided into two banks of 2x3 cubes. Since I am in the basement with cement floors I didn't want to set the cubes on the floors. I scrounged around a came up with a white end table and a wooden trunk what were each big & sturdy enough to hold a tower 2 cubes wide. It's nice because it raised them up so even the lower drawers are easy to access. When we get some nicer flooring I may end up putting them on the floors but I'm really thinking about asking DH to build a base for them. One of my towers contains mostly the 4 drawer cubes. I have my unmounted stamp sets (in CD cases) in these. I have one 3 drawer unit in that tower which holds my wheels & handles and some odds & end ink pads. My other tower is embellishment oriented. It has my flowers in jars on top with various types of embellishments & ribbons in the drawers. By organizing this way it doesn't bother me that all of the cubes are not together.
My DH built a frame and put them on the frame, hooking them together in the process. He then put nice trim around the bottom and installed countertops over the top. They look like built-in cabinets.

Wow! Sounds like a talented husband. I'll bet it's beautiful.
I looked longingly at the system at HL today, but haven't taken the plunge, yet.

Thanks - yes, he is incredibly handy! I got the idea from a magazine article called "While I was Away at CKU." (Creating Keepsakes magazine). Below is a pic of what it looked like when clean....please don't ask to see it now. (It's a mess!) I also have a huge wall unit made of drawers and cubes and a separate work station.
I have a bunch of these as well. Not sure how many but quite a few. I still want more. I agree that they are great..my favorites are the 3 drawer ones. I keep all my special (Papertrey, Basic Grey & SU DSP in them) I love it when all is put away and looks all neat and tidy...my hubby says I am a bit OCD...I always clean up my stamp room in the evening when I am finished playing because I would not be able to sleep if I knew it was a mess. Anyway, what fun would it be to walk into a messy room and then want to create if you have to straighten up first...guess I am a bit OCD.
Blessings ladies.
