Does anyone have any tips for paper piercing. I finally tried it the other day and they were just okay....my line could have been straighter.
I also like those pretty curvy shapes that I have seen....
Bazzill makes some templates called institchz here's a link to look at them http://www.createforless.com/bazzill...c-3b8823d66200 I have them and like them. I also have used just a piece of plastic canvas works good too. HTH

is there a template to use for that sorta thing?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!
I usually just pierce around the edges of a shape, or in the "bumps" of a scallop design.
But here is a wonderful site that sells some very beautiful templates for paper piercing, if you like the elaborate look.
I found that if I clip a piece of plastic canvas (you can cut your own template with this into any shape or size you want) to the image I am piercing, it makes a nice template and comes out looking really nice.
Stampin Up also sells a "classy brass template" called "Punches Plus" that coordinates with several of their punches - large (I think) oval, four sizes of circles, three squares, and a star. It also has two different sizes of zig-zags around the edge in case you want to cut or emboss those, and a parenthesis and four dots (I'm not sure what that's supposed to be exactly!), also to emboss. It's on page 186 of the current catty.
You could print/draw your design for piercing on the regular printer paper (the cheaper quality the better coz it'll be more thin and translucent) and then keep it on top of your cardstock (clip it if you think you wouldn't be able to hold it all along), put a piece of fun foam underneath and cardstock and pierce over the design. Did I make sense?
Basically make a sandwich with the printer paper on top, cardstock in the middle and fun foam at the bottom. The printer paper is translucent you would be able to see where upi're piercing. This way you can pierce any design as long as you can print it
I have several of the Ornare piercing templates...I particularly love the flourish type one. It makes beautiful corners on cards. It takes a bit of time to get it done but the results are very pretty.
Blessings.
Ps. I bought mine from Ellen Hutson.

Tracy,
Just checked out your blog, and that is ingenius! What a cool idea, and you are right about the possibilities being endless. Thank you for the inspiration!!
One thing I did today for paper piercing was to use the inner edge of my scalloped circle nesties as a guide. If I do this right, you can see it in this photo here

Another thing I got about 6-8 weeks ago, which was "free" (you could put money on it, and then use the giftcard) and I don't know if Target still has any, but they had a brass giftcard that had three different sized snowflakes made out of punched out dots. These snowflakes would give you paperpiercing templates for not only the snowflakes but also "+"s and corners/right angles.

I just got the Mat Pack from SU! on Friday. LOVE IT! It comes with a template, piercing pad and setting mat. The template has holes that are 1/8" and 1/4" spacing, as well as 3/16" and 3/8" spacing. Then at the bottom it has a template for eyelet placements. HTH!

I love my mat pack from SU, but I also buy some templates from www.ellenhutson.com. Look on the left side of the home page, go down near the bottom and find paper piercing and ornare. There are some lovely templates and the ones I have purchased are really high quality. The one with a scalloped edge fits the SU scallop punch strips and I made paper lace with it this weekend.

Thanks Pam! Glad you liked it. Hope it comes in handy.
you can print out anything you like on copy paper and then pierce through it to your project.
I find the tool makes a huge difference. Making memories has an incredible one. No offense to SU, but I found their piercer heavy & the point is too fat. Tim Holtz's piercer tip bent on me and kept sliding into the handle. argh. The man's a genius, but that thing drove me bonkers LOL.
Cheap piercing mat (4 bucks): I love to use a 12x12 mat made of 4 layers of fun foam to pierce; it sits right in my scor-pal. You can use temporary adhesive (like dotto which rubs right off with SUs adhesive eraser) to affix your homemade template. OR you can use pins to anchor it into the fun foam mat: pierce one hole at each end of your design perfectly (through the paper) and line it up, then pierce away.
I find the paper template neat because you can use clip art, stamped images/ alphabets, doodles, If you like the design a lot you can make a permanent template with quilter's plastic.
So many great tips!!!
I was at Target one day and found a paper piercing template....and it was free! I know, I know...one day I'll load some cash on it, but for now, it's my template!!!
I was trying to load a picture and I just can't ever seem to do this.
Anyway, it's the Wedding Gift card and all the way around it, it's got a scalloped border and little dots or holes. Very nifty!!!:-D

Gee! Why didn't I think about that! I was trying to think of things I had around the house that I could use to make my own template. I have some transparency film but I was afraid this would be too flimsy. I have a few dead or nearly dead gift cards in my wallet. Voila! :-D
