Does anyone know who manufacturers the new trimmer that just came out in the new catalog? Is it made by Fiskars or some other company? I don't care for Fiskars paper trimmers and I'd be interested in knowing who the manufacturer is of this new one.
i've been looking all over the internet for info and reviews on this trimmer, too. i just received my catalog and didn't know if that trimmer had been around a while, or not. It looks wonderful, and the tracks do not look like Fiskars. Maybe we will get a review soon...
MS is made by EK Success who makes the Score Board for MS & SU. EK also makes the punches for both companies. I hope that helps.
I have the MS trimmer. I like it but don't love it. I use my Xacto knife and ruler when I cut. It's just easier for me. I don't really use a paper trimmer a lot so I can't really give it a decent review. The blades for the MS trimmer are the ones that fit in our circle cutters from SU & EK Success.
Based on the images I've seen for the new trimmer online, it doesn't look at all like the MS trimmer. It has a storage area for a bone folder and extra cutting/scoring blades and I'm just wondering who the manufacturer is.
I'm sure once they get the quality kinks worked out there will be tons of reviews on the product.
No, that does not look like MS trimmer. Sorry for the confusion girls. The one I saw advertised in the catalog looks like the MS trimmer. I looked through my PDF catalog. That one is on page 182 of the PDF catalog. Now, that I look at it more closely I think it looks like one of the new Fiskars cutters.
No those aren't at all what I've seen. Too bad a few demos won't chime in with their comments.
I get blog feeds from demos and one of the blog feeds about the new catalog/new products featured info on the new trimmer along with the update that it would not be available until July. I was just wondering if anyone knew who the manufacturer is.
I guess once the product becomes available, we'll start hearing all sorts of buzz about it. Hopefully there will be a review here on SCS!
That euro trimmer is basically what they've had in the past. I had one similar to it and got rid of it when I got the Tonic version of SU's tabletop trimmer and a new Fiskars with the wire guide.
I get a bad vibe when SU "delays" something, remember the boxes to hold punches that never came to pass?

I'd rather have a 'delay' than have them put it out when it's not up to standard.
I think the punch holders were really the only thing that has been 'delayed' that didn't eventually show up.
But it could be my Regal Rose coloured glasses! ;)
Yes, after careful inspection of the catalog and online descriptions, I doubt that I will buy it either--$29.95 is awfully steep to pay for a trimmer. At that price, I'd better be using a 40% off coupon!!!
ETA: Does anyone know why SU! discontinued the stampin spots, except for the getting started collection? I'm intrigued with the new foam pads and will probably only get it in Basic Black, as I can't see buying 10+ neutral pads just to have them in the new foam pad. But then again, I could get super excited over the new foam pads and want to replace ALL of them...LOL!

That's the problem that demos have been having since we first started getting the firm foam pads in our pre-orders.
I'm fighting the urge right now ... and losing the battle!
Its funny, I thought I didn't mind having the old style ink pads (and I mostly don't) but then there is a day like today when I was stamping an image and I was getting the textured look to my color and I found myself thinking..."well, maybe I'll get this color in the new style". And I'm sure that will keep happening.
As for the spots, my best guess is that they weren't selling as well as SU would like and so when they were streamlining the catalog they cut them out. One thing to know is that the Stampin' Spots that are left are NOT firm foam but instead exactly the same as they have been over the last few years. Just so you don't order the Getting Started collection to try out firm foam and get disappointed.

Actually, this looks like a Tonic guillotine trimmer. If it's the one in the large picture on the SU website, that does look like a Fiskars trimmer to me. In any case, I'm not in the market for a new trimmer. I have several of the purple Fiskars Euro trimmers, and I must be one of the very few people who have had no trouble cutting a straight line with them. And I have a small and large Tonic guillotine cutter, and they are wonderful.
SU! still doesn't have an availability date for the new paper trimmers. :( The tabletop trimmer (guillotine style) is still available. It's the new one (replacing the old Fiskars style) that we are waiting for.
Can't wait.
The blades look different than the Fiskars blades for the Euro Trimmer.
Based on what SU! has said, I think it's being designed for SU!
the trimmer you guys were talking about is Tonic Studios trimmer... I just purchased the new SU trimmer because I LOVE LOVEEEEE my Tonic trimmer and want to get SU so I could demonstrate how awesome it work with thick cardstock.
That is not the new paper trimmer they are talking about. That is the "old" guillotine trimmer we had for some time now. The new one is not available yet. I do agree that the "old" table top cutter is great though.

A friend has the old one with the swing arm, she said it worked pretty well until you wanted to cut a small bit off.
I am looking for any opinions on the new one where you slide the blade up and down. From what i saw in the picture, it has some unique blades.
That one is not available for purchase yet. We all have the old sliding blade one, not this new one. I hope to get my hands on the new one as soon as it is available.

They haven't told us a date for when the trimmer is coming out but I have my fingers crossed that we will at least have one that we can try out in person at convention in a few weeks! I can't wait to get my hands on one!
My wish list is waaayyy bigger than my level of income right now, so I'll just add to my list and hopefully I'll end up buying the trimmer at some point. I really don't like my Fiskars trimmer and they were kind enough to replace my original trimmer when I told them I wasn't getting straight cuts with it, but even with the replacement they sent, I still am not thrilled with the cuts, so I'm hoping this new SU! trimmer will be great.
As soon as one of you demos gets your inky little fingers on one, please post pros/cons, how well it cuts, etc, etc, etc so that we can make an "informed purchase"!
Alright, I just got back from Convention and I was able to play with one of the trimmers while I was there and talked to the person who gives the final approval for the prototypes and design. Let me just say, it is awesome!!
Ok, here is what I learned - they had it out starting on Wednesday with paper for people to try cutting with it and when I tried it on Saturday, they had not changed the blade out and it still was cutting great! (as an aside, there were 3500 demos there this year) The cutter and blade are designed by and unique to SU - though the blade itself (so the underside of the plastic part that glides) looks similar to the fiskars tiny blade. I asked if the blade has the same lifespan of the orange blades and she said that that was a specific issue they designed around and that the SU blades last 3x longer than the fiskars blades before they start dulling and feathering your paper.
I love the scoring blade (I gave up using the fiskars scoring blade because it kept tearing my paper) and I think it gives just the right pressure. And the cutting and scoring blades can stay on the track and stored out of the way of your 12" cutting area. It can show you a true 12"+ cutting measurement and the numbers on the surface are under the laminate so it won't rub off.
There is storage underneath to store extra blades and rubber feet to keep it from sliding. There are some other awesome features, but in general I think it is a huge improvement from the other cutters out there, especially the old fiskars one.
I asked about when it was coming and she said when she gets back in the office she will have the final prototype on her desk to approve and if it is good, they will start manufacturing and shipping them to the home office so we can start ordering! So hopefully it will be pretty soon!
Thanks, Jennifer!
Two more questions: are the measurements in inches only?
Let's say you miscut a piece of paper and would have to take off just a tiny sliver to make it straight - are you able to see EXACTLY where you will be cutting?
Thanks, Jennifer!

The measurements on the one I saw are in inches only I believe; though I'm guessing in other (non-US) markets where cm are standards they might come out with different measures? One can hope, right?
As for cutting off small pieces... the plastic piece that you press on to hold your paper still is completely clear. So it is easy to see what your paper is doing. The only thing is that the blade is in a square piece of grey plastic so you can't see that part exactly. However, I think the clear track is a big help in seeing how your paper is lined up and where it is.
