Stamping on cork

For one of the products being offered at a local bridal expo, I would like to stamp on cork circles to  make coasters to be used as wedding favors. Anyone had experience with this? What ink (Stazon)? Do you use a sealant?

I hate Stazon so I always use Ranger Archival instead on things like this and, no, I don't use a sealer. You could, of course, but it would reduce the absorbency of the cork. If that doesn't matter to you, then sealing might be a good idea. I would use a spray like Krylon in whichever finish (matte, satin, gloss) that you prefer.

Thanks for your reply. I wanted to add some color to the stamping but didn't want it to "run" when water touched it.

In that case, either use a waterproof ink (archival or pigment) and/or seal it... You could also use diluted acrylic paint (or even undiluted, depending on the look you want).

Hybrid ink can also be used on wood and cork - I have the ones from Impression Obsession.

The new Stazon Pigment inks would be a great option because they're opaque - love them too.

you might try memento with alcohol inks; heat set the memento and that should waterproof it. I've then used alcohol inks by applying with cotton tip swabs.

Be really careful with sealants. Some will react with certain inks making them run very badly. I’d test them out first. Be sure to wait the full curing time of the sealant to be sure. Many sealants are dry quickly, another 24 hours for a second coat and sometimes up to 72 hours for a full cure.

I have Memories inks for just these sorts of purposes---cork, wood, ceramic.  It is a dye ink but more water permanent than Memento or SU and my go to instead of Staz On (which I hate).  Let it dry completely and you should be OK.  Still, I would test it out on a scrap first.

I stamped on cork coasters using black Stazon -- not my favorite, to be sure, but I already had it, it worked, no sealer was needed, and no ink ran when it got wet (yes, I tested them).  The cork really absorbed a lot of ink so being able to re-stamp by using a stamp positioner was very helpful, and I needed the reinker.

Posca acrylic paint pens work great and come in varying tips. The coverage is very good. Joann’s carries these as well as Joggles and Amazon.
