Default Stampin' Up Markers Not Available in Individual Colors Anymore?

I appogize if this has been discussed before. I have been away from stamping for over a year now.

I was working on my holiday cards (just finished them last night - yeah!) and realized that the SU chocolate chip marker I had was worn out. I don't mean dry. I know how to re-ink them. I mean the tip is all worn out from so much use. Fortunately the amount of brown color I needed on my image was small enough I could substitute another brown colored marker for it. But I wanted to make sure I had a fresh marker for the next project. So I went online to the SU website.

I saw that chocolate chip is not offered in an individual marker anymore. Wasn't that always one of the most popular colors for them? I didn't understand why that wasn't available. I looked at the other colors and saw that there are only a few colors offered individualy now and that if you want them, you have to order them only in full sets. That stinks if you only need one of the colors - like I do.

So I wrote to the demonstrator I last ordered from and asked her what was up with the individual markers not being offered and she simply said "That's just the way SU did it this time". But that doesn't answer my question as to why they did it this way.

I was checking out the clearance rack sale on the SU website and see that most of the colors they do still have individually are now on the clearance rack. Is coloring with markers going out of style? Why would they get rid of all their markers?

There are still a number of markers available individually. However, selling all of them that way apparently takes up lots of shelf space that could otherwise be used for items that sell better. It's a matter of economics as I see it.

Looks like they are getting rid of them though too. All the individual colors still available are on the clearance rack on the online catalog.

That's fine for those who are buying markers for the first time and want full sets but for those of us that have them all and just need replacements this is a problem. I don't want to spend $29 plus tax and shipping to buy a set when all I need is one marker.

Here is a place where you can buy replacement tips for your SU markers . I ordered from them and they are fine.

Maybe they're revamping the markers like they did with the ink pads? I can't believe they'd do away with them altogether-they're a basic coloring item after all. It would also explain them only offering a few of them individually this year-totally odd decision to me!

Thanks for the info. I looked for these a couple years ago when my original markers started getting worn out but didn't have any luck finding them so I ordered all new replacement markers. Buying just the tips certainly would be more cost efficient.
