Default Silhouette Cameo advice

I have finally been able to purchase a Cameo, and need some help. I put it together, complete with autoblade, and started cutting. It worked for the first 5 or 6 cuts. Then I started cutting out Christmas cards, which have part that has 3 snowflakes cut out of it. I made 30 of that one piece. Out of 30, 5 were torn so badly they couldn't be salvaged. The other 25 had cut the snowflakes out, but even after separation from the mat, each snowflake (3 per piece) had to be individually manipulated to remove each of the 6 parts that had been cut. It took both my husband and I 2 solid hours of carefully separating the snowflakes from the part that was cut away in order to get the 25 pieces ready to go on the cards. And the snowflakes arent even that intricate compared to many of the designs they sell in the store.

So, this was regular weight card stock, the same kind I had successfully used on the first 5 or 6 pages of designs I had cut out with no problem. So nothing about the paper resulted in the difference. I also noticed that the mat is already in pretty rough shape already, after only being sent through less than 10 times.

I'm really stressed over the quality of the cutting, because I saved for months to afford this and wasn't expecting to have to spend hours after a fairly simple cutting project just to get the finished product to a point where they could be used. Can anyone please tell me if they've had a similar experience, or what I can do to improve the quality of the designs. Thank you!

Hi there, just saw this. You would probably be better posting this in the Silhouette Cameo Chatter sticky at the top of the posts list. You will find some very knowledgable ladies on there who are sure to have an answer to your problem. Hth.

First of all Hugs (((())))Secondly ...breath...

Ok I have had this happen and it is sooooooooo frustrating but ever since I made some adjustments it seems (knocking on wood) to have been resolved.

I adjusted the speed of the cut to up near the quickest it will go, and I adjusted the thickness...

Check out the Silhouette school blog, the link below is about cutting cardstock like a pro.

I just upgraded my Silhouette SD to a Cameo 3 and I do not care for the auto blade. I quite using it and just went with the regular blade.

Another big thumbs up for Silhouette School Blog... Melissa is terrific and a great resource!

Maybe the blade had a small piece of paper stuck and that's why it wouldn't cut well. Also you can't have a mat too sticky or too "unsticky" if that makes sense. Using the premium blade helps too. Also blades dull very fast with cutting paper.

I love silhouette school blog. Very helpful

The best method for me to cut paper is to go to cut settings - advanced. Then turn over cut on. Up to .3 or .4
Also join several Facebook groups for silhouette

And I also slow the speed down.
