Paper Wishes carries "i-craft self-mending plate" for die cutting machine. Anyone have any info/experience with this type? It would decrease replacing cutting plates. GramT

Reason: correct name of product
Jennifer McGuire has a video mentioning the self-mending plates. Sorry don't have the date or any other information on it. But, it might be worth looking into.
I found the video by Jennifer McGuire and a few more. Thank you. The self-mending (self-healing) plate was introduced by a new company last winter at Creativation. They call it a deck and it is available for $15 to $20 on i-crafter website as well as Paper Wishes and Simon Says Stamp. I think it will be a popular money saver.

AccuQuilt has been making a self-healing mat for years, and I've been using one for the past several years myself. There are multiple sizes available. Mine is packed (moving next week), but it is either the 5" x 10" or the 6" x 12". Here's a link to Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/AccuQuilt-GO-.../dp/B002E3GIQ6
It appears that it's a bit less expensive than the iCraft one...
Thank you for this information. I will check it out and compare. I do a lot of die cutting and replacing the damaged plates becomes expensive. Did you need any special "sandwich". I have the original platform with tabs, magnetic platform and specialty plates for embossing with dies. (Is that the same as "whole set syndrome" ??). I know each Big Shot is different and may require added shims. Again, I knew I could count on SCS for guidance and inspiration. GramT
Different dies from different companies require different shims, but I've never failed at getting a good diecut with the AccuQuilt mat. It's thinner than the regular plates, so I usually need some shimming. I have a Big Shot and the regular platform with tabs. I used to have a magnetic platform but I gave it to my daughter - I didn't love it. If I need a magnetic surface now, I put a vent cover on the platform and usually don't need a shim that way. If you use a vent cover, make sure that you are cutting into the mat, not the magnet...
I've had one for about two weeks now. I absolutely love it. I have a Big Shot, a Gemini Jr. and a Platinum 6. It works well in the Big Shot and Platinum 6, but I haven'tried it in my Gemini Jr yet.
I've done approx 60 cuts with it, and it still doesn't show any signs or markings of any kind. I was wondering if I bought another one, could I use them in place of the cutting plates, with one i-craft on top and one i-craft on the bottom.I'm totally impressed with this new tool.
I bought a self healing mat from Amazon - cut it in half and it works great. I hate to spend money and will look for a cheaper option when possible. It was $7 and it is .24” thick which is close to the .25 thickness of the icraft mat. Brand is craft queen.
I have replaced one of my acrylic plates with two 6” x 8” self healing mats for die cutting. I found when used together, they are the same thickness of a plate. They give four cutting surfaces, so should last a long time.
Here’s a screenshot of what I’m using in my spellbinders platinum. I have a large Gemini but I don’t use it so I’m not sure how this will work in it. (I bought the Gemini in case I get to where I can’t crank my platinum 🤷♀️)
Is what your referring to a mat (self healing, a bit thin) or a plate (about 1/4 inch thick) that can heal? I have purchased oodles of Sizzix plate "B"! would love to use those funds for something else.
This thread speaks of two different solutions to the high cost of replacing cutting plates damaged by frequent die cutting. The "i-craft self-mending deck" or other "self- healing plate" (Accu-quilt) is as thick as the traditional plate and replaces the plate facing the cutting surface of the die. The "self-healing mat" is thin and added to the sandwich between the plate and the cutting die to prevent damage to the plate. Perhaps several layers of the self-healing mat could be thick enough to replace a plate? Thank you all for chiming in and sharing your thoughts and experiences. GramT
I go through 3 - 6 plates for my Cuttlebug. I protected them with self healing mats. Even after flipping the self healing mat to use both sides it warped.
I hope companies come up with an answer to get more uses out of a cutting plate. There are so many dies I want to use.
I have a Cricut, also, but use stamps and dies with the Cuttlebug.
I'm thinking about purchasing a Scan and cut, to cut out my stamped images, without a die.
I bought my Icrafter mat from their site but someone said that Paper Wishes has them for sale.
I have a scan and cut and I do use it for many stamped images but all exterior lines must be connected or you can get some STRANGE looking cut outs. I think the funniest was I was cutting out a panda image and the only thing it cut out was his eyes... creepy.
I noticed in the Stampin Up! annual catalog that the new cut and emboss machines (normal and mini) have an accessory plate that is magnetic and has a self-healing surface. I have not seen any videos by SU! Demonstrators detailing the new machines. Is there any info out yet??

I tried using a self-healing mat with my Gemini, and it was awful. The self-healing mat was so terribly warped, after only one run through the machine, that I had to throw it away. It was a waste of money, a waste of time, and a big disappointment. Someone told me that that's what is supposed to happen, but I don't believe that. It shouldn't be that bad after only one pass, and you can't cut with warping that is that bad. I hope you get better results.
The Accuquilt mats don't warp - they're intended to use with quilting dies and run through the Go! machine. I just thought it would be a smart idea for my Big Shot, and has proven to be so...

Sue, Do I understand correctly that this mat takes the place of the plate on the Big Shot or another machine? I saw something about shimming it? I am getting curious as I go through many plates on my Big Shot Plus machine.

Yes, this mat takes the place of one of the plates and yes, you will need to shim, as it is thinner than the plates. As stated above, different dies require different shims. Sometimes all that is needed is a piece of thin cardboard (like from a cereal box), sometimes a bit of cardstock needs to be added, sometimes two layers of thin cardboard. I never remember to do this, but the wiser folk write down the "sandwich" that was successful for a particular die and keep that info with the die itself for future reference.

I bought the Accuquilt mat, after many months it warped just like the clear plates for my Gemini Jr. YES, I turn, rotate and flip after EVERY cut. I also bought some plain self healing mats from Amazon.. same results. But, I do cut almost daily. I just cut 50 cards for Christmas, using a new Gemini Jr mat, and the new clear plate is pretty much shot. I had to cut a lot of wording, a deer, and emboss a 3D embossing folder. I did purchase a new double sided plate from Crafters Companion, which was created for the double sided dies... but so far have not tried it. I did question it on Facebook but no replies as to how it would work on single side dies. When my plate warps too bad, I use a heat tool (used to remove paint and other remodeling issues - not the heat guns for embossing), and I can flatten the plates to extend their life. I also tried to tape the plates like Jennifer and other crafters have suggested, but they still warp. I still love my Gemini Jr !! (donated my original Cuttlebug to an assisted living homes craft department.) I checked into Simon Says for the I mend self healing mat and someone posted it did not work for their Gemini Jr machine.
I too am waiting to hear about Stampin Ups new die cut machines. I have a Craft Buddy that takes the little plates, and it looks like it will be the same size as the new Mini Stampin Up machine. Once the plates finally become available, I plan on trying one.
I bought my Icrafter mat from their site but someone said that Paper Wishes has them for sale.

Look at The Papered Chef on YouTube. She has videos that will help with that issue. Great solutions.

Would you have a link to the video or more specific information such as title or date of video? Thank you in advance.
I searched You Tube for her name and "self healing deck". The date of the video is July 3, 2020 and titled " Preventing die cut machine warping". I am sorry I am unable to just give you a direct link.

I have bought the i- craft self healing mat and after an intense cutting session over a couple of days the mat has warped badly in the centre even though I constantly flip the mat. Not great, Hyatt another never ending expense with trying too make mats last. Now they have come out with a Pro version but it is more than double the price of the first so a bit reticent about getting it.

I have the Gemini plates for double-sided dies and I love them. (I use them for regular dies.) My sandwich from the bottom up: Gemini acrylic plate, double-sided plate, die FACE-UP, cardstock, double-sided plate, Gemini acrylic plate. I have used these plates extensively at all to any of the plates. I do flip the plate I'm cutting into just like I do for normal plates. I have also used Olfa 6X8 mats, work great also.

I have the self-healing mat from Scrapbook.com. There is a video on the website on how to unwarp the pad. It took a lot of cutting but mine was pretty warped. I unwarped it with my heat gun.
