Default ruler that has ridges that offset small amoutn

Hi, I saw a ruler that had a ridge on it that would allow you to create a piece slightly larger with a specified offset. A ridge on it rested against your existing piece of paper and you cut along the ruler edge to make a slightly larger piece. I am afraid I am not describing it well, it is used to make a second piece just slightly larger than the first piece. YOu did not have to measure anything! Cant find it anywhere now. Thanks!

Thanks for the referral to the website Nancy and Lydia......I am wondering what you like the best to cut with these rulers? Rotary cutter or exacto knife or ???

Shirl, I think it depends on what you are comfortable with.

I prefer using a rotary cutter with the Perfect Layers tool because it's a cutter I used years ago when I was strip quilting. I'm already in the habit of pulling back the blade to a safe position.

Silly me. I don't use my X-acto knife because it needs a blade change and I'm afraid of cutting myself. I know. I'm weird.

The key to a good cut is using something sharp! I had a rotary blade with a nick in it and it did not cut well. A sharp X-acto blade would have been a better choice.

Also, be sure to use a self-healing cutting mat under your project. Mine is 18"x24", on the small side for for fabric but much too big for general crafting. It's such a hassle to clear the table to use it. I think I'll buy another one in a 12"x12" size for my paper crafting.

I agree - just make sure it's sharp! I use an X-acto more but I'm sure the rotary would be fine - whatever you're comfortable with.

As for X-acto, I prefer a #16 blade over a #11 blade.

I use an exacto-style Knife (Stampin'Up! sold them a long time ago and I have 2 + refills). However, I am intrigued by something I recently saw advertised somewhere. It's called a penblade:

PenBlade

Hoping it will be demonstrated at a stamp show I'm attending soon.

Anybody also bought the perfect squares tool and the perfect ruler? Did you find them helpful?

I bought the perfect layers mini set, perfect for cards, at a stamp show just a week or so ago.
The gal from The Stamp Doctor denonstrating it recommended a box cutter blade. The one with a strip of blades you dial out. (Aporox $1.50) her reasoning was it cut straight under the edge and an exacto knife was made to curve.
It took about three practice trys and I love it especially for that 1/16" layer i like to use.

Thank you for this. I almost bought a new exacto knife the other day. Now, I will look for new blades for the box cutter that I think we already have somewhere.
