Default Quilling Fringers

While I've written in another post (new craft wave predictions), about how I like to do things by hand where possible (i.e. paper-cutting in lieu of laser-cut option); hand-embroidery in lieu of machine embroidery etc...

I was reminded to leave a question here about the proficiency of a quilling fringer tool. I've noted them highly recommended, but have also had feedback that they're not always reliable. Some brands fall apart etc.

I'd appreciate feedback; I've enjoyed cutting lots of paper flowers in the past by hand but maybe this tool would make it happen a lot more simplistically.

I'm wondering too apart from stability of the tool itself; does it slice the petals finely enough for your liking?

Thanks for feedback.

I have one (the brand is 'Quilled Creations'). I bought it second hand from someone on an online auction site, because new ones here are horrendously expensive. The seller claimed in the auction notes that she'd bought it and was selling because she didn't use it, but when I got it and tried to use it, it was very hit and miss as to whether the paper could move through the machine at a constant rate. Then a small screw fell out, and I realised the probable reason why it had been put on sale. :(
Fortunately I have a mechanically-minded DH, and after a bit of attention from him, it's worked fine since then.
So, I'd say they are worth it if you do a lot of quilling or want to make flowers quickly, but they are precise bits of machinery and not to be fiddled with (unless you are mechanically minded or know someone who is).

thankyou for your notes and experience. I had been told certain ones do tend to fall apart. Since they are a hefty investment that could be quite a dissapointment.

Hi Carol
Just sent you and email as I didn't know if I was allowed to mention specific retailers on this site.
