Back when Papertrey ink started the had put out ink pads. And for several years and many iterations the ink pads had a lot of problems. The stamp and paper were outstanding. But because of the customer service and the ink pad problem I stopped buying PTI.
I am just getting started in Scraping & Stamping after my 40yr husbands battle with a brain tumor which he lost. My son and I are starting to find a "new normal" and I would like to buy some new things.
Are the papertrey ink stamps pads better now? Do they truly match their paper line?
Is there better out there. I have seen a lot of companies put out there own ink pads. I am looking for a good hybrid ink.
I have many Momento and very old CTMH (kind of dryed up.)
My Favorite Things now has hybrid ink pads. I only have the black for use with my Copics but am planning on buying some colors.
I like my Versafine pigment ink pad for nice, clean stamping of sentiments. Also, can be used with water based markers for coloring.
Use my Tim Holtz ink pads for blending and water activated techniques.
So sorry for your loss but have had a similar experience. This site is a wonderful place to share your crafting exploration - questions asked here are never dumb! (We have all been there or wanted to be there) The crafters here are so kind and helpful.

Thank you for your reply. Crafting has always helped me and this site is wonderful. The past 3 years just stunk I had lost two dogs and my husband. It was hard on my now 11yr. Since you said that you have gave through similar I am so sorry for what ever it was. I would not have wished the past 3 years on my worst enemy.
On a brighter note, welcome back to $tamping land! I do not have the PTI inks but tried a friend's. They are typical dye inks, but I found the ink pad itself (in the shape of a comma) difficult. It is hard to take off the lid. Good luck figuring it out.
My personal preference are the ink pads sold by Avery Elle, Mama Elephant because they are a fast drying pigment and they have cardstock to match. (not that I've bought the cardstock!)

Katie, I don't have any ink recommendations, but I wanted to say that I'm very sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how difficult the past few years have been. Big Hugs!
I do have all of the newer PTI inks, and use them the most when I'm stamping. I also have lots of Hero Arts Shadow Inks, some Studio Calico, Avery Elle & Memento and like all of them as well. For the most part, the inks are a very good match to the paper colors. My one complaint with PTI (both ink & paper) is that there's not a really nice yellow. Maybe one day....
Katie, I'm so sorry for your loss. Welcome back to stamping, I always say it's my therapy. I lost my son almost 19 years ago and I get a lot of stamping done in the fall around his birthday and the day he died, it always helps me fell better and not give in to the black hole of depression I sometimes want to loose myself in.
I have ink from Stampin Up, Hero Arts, Adirondack, and Papertrey Ink and I've got to say that I really love the PTI ink, especially on clear stamps. I find that clear stamps are a strange lot and some ink works better than others on them. PTI seems to deliver a more consistent stamped image than most on those, no matter what card stock I am stamping on.

Kate...so very sad for what you and your son have been thru losing your husband. Hopefully getting some new papercrafting items will give you some smiles. I love all things from My Favorite Things. Not only do they have beautiful good quality papers and inks, buttons and ribbons but awesome dies and stamps. Their products are top quality with the customer service to match. You will not be disappointed with their stuff. They are also a member company here on SCS so nice to support them.
Blessings.
