Prismacolor Pencils

Hi! To those of you who are using this colour pencils ...what particular Prismacolor do you use for colouring the stamped image? Is it the Prismacolor Premier Colour Pencils or the Prismacolour Watercolour pencils? :rolleyes: :confused:

Both are great. But, the majority of examples you've seen here probably use the Premier pencils. HTH a little.

Are these Prismacolor Premier pencils can be used with Gamsol as well? They are waterproof right?:confused:

I use the Premier pencils and blend those with Gamsol ;)

Thanks Jovi. So whether you use it with or without Gamsol, it still comes out wonderful, right? 'Coz I've seen a lot of stampers here who use these Prismacolor pencils even w/o Gamsol and they still look fantastic.

Right, jhet. The Prismacolor Premier pencils can be blended with or without Gamsol. There is a colorless blender that you can use (basically a colored pencil with no color), or you can just use another lighter color to blend with. When you do the blending with a blender or other color, you'll need to use fairly heavy pressure to move the pigments. It also helps if your paper doesn't have a really rough finish.

I use Prisma Premier pencils and blend them with a baby oil. It works great.

I use the Premier and blend with the gamsol. If you need any stumps, I have only a few extra from an order I have coming in late this week. They are the Creative Mark brand.

I love my Prismacolored pencils and I have the Premier style. It works great with all Odorless Mineral Spirits.

My favorite collection of 'Prismas' is the 'Premiere' set of 120.
I will admit that I have bought singles to replace my well-worn-favs at our local 'Aaron Brothers' store. ;)

I just bought a set of 36 prismacolor premier pencils. I would LOVE to have the 120 set, but just can't afford it. The only reason I got the set of 36 was because I had a 50% off any regular priced item coupon for Michael's! I just tried using Stampin Up's blender pen, and it did blend the colors a bit though not as much as I would have liked. I will be trying Goo Gone and I will look for a blender pencil.

Given I exclusively incorporate stamping into scrapping (not a cardmaker or stamp artist), I utilize the Prismacolor Lightfast pencils & the Prismacolor Colorless Blender. HTH.

I LOVE using the prismacolor pencils and I have been simply blending with the stumps, but would love to try the gamsol technique. Could anyone explain exactly how to do it? Do I put gamsol on the stump or dip the pencil tip in it?'

There are some great tutorials on utube to watch. That's how I learned. Still not as good as I would like to be but my blending keeps getting better and better.

I personally dip the stumps. I pour baby oil (I am achieving really nice results with that instead of Gamsol) into a small espresso cup and dip. HTH.

Here's a quick little tutorial on using baby oil and colored pencils(she uses koh-i-noor pencils), which is what I use. Using the q tips really is better for larger areas, I've found. I got a big bottle of goo gone at a chain hardware store, and have seen it at Mikes, but did not think it worked as well as the baby oil. You just need a light touch, or the baby oil will stain. But it smells so good!

I must be the rare one. I use the watercolor pencils. I have never tried any others and I am happy with the results. I like using plain water and not worrying about other toxic things with children and pets. And if I knock the water over (which I do a lot) no biggie. And I bought them with a coupon at Joannes but I think (don't have the ad right here) that they are going on sale at Michael's for 50% off (I could be wrong---they may have already been on sale). If I remember I will let you know.

I checked on their website and it says that Premier are for artist and Scholar for crafters, art students and artisans... that tells me that Premier shou;d be better quality, but what I would like to know if there is any noticable difference when coloring with them...

If you have a local Office Depot going out of business, go and see if they still have an Prismascolor pencils left. I got the 120 for $58 dollars including tax. That is still a LOT cheaper than M's with the coupon..

The two kinds mentioned are very different.

Premier: wax based pencil. Can be blended "wet" with OMS (ex: gamsol), baby oil, goo gone etc. Can also be blended "dry" with the PC blender pencil. Colors are generally bolder.

Watercolor: Blended with a brush and water. Easier to acheive subtle color than with premier.

Each type has its own style. There is no "better" just different. And which you like is strictly up to you.

I would choose the premier. My scholars are good...but don't get the intense color and I don't think they have the number of color choices.

I use Prisma Premier pencils and blend them with gasmol. I love them! I have never tried any other kind so I can't help there ;)
