Hi there I'm interested in making greetings cards. I suffer from RA, and want to try this craft so that I can use it as a form of therapy. I have tried to cut my card stock, but become frustrated because of not being able to get straight cuts. I've come across various paper trimmer, and score boards. I would like to find something that would do both, but not spend a lot of money on . Any recommendations?
I have the stampin up trimmer which cuts and scores. I don't know if there are others that do both but I like my trimmer. I'm not a demonstrator, this is just my opinion.

And yes, check out sandy parkers YouTube channel!
I love my SU trimmer! I'm even tempted to order a second one so there is always one in my traveling tote.
My dh gave me a genesis trimmer for Christmas in 2009. Does Bonnie still make and sell them? It is the sweetest trimmer I have ever used and it is the best Christmas surprise gift I have ever received.
My experience with track or rotary style trimmers is that in a short time the rail gets loose and it doesn't cut straight . Plus the cost of replacement blades ( even with a coupon or on sale) is very high and they wear out quickly
So the initial cost of a track trimmer may be less but in the long run you will pay a lot more in replacement blades and new trimmers than you would with a guillotine trimmer and a Scor-Pal.
That was why I bought a Tonic Guillotine trimmer. Guillotine trimmer blades are self sharpening and it always cuts straight !
I have the Tonic guillotine trimmer and a Scor Pal . Both of these may last a lifetime .
BTW A friend has the Martha Stewart score board and I tried it . It is flimsy , and I had trouble with the scoring tool jumping out to the track . In my opinion the Scor-Pal is a better product .
I just found that the 12" Tonic guillotine trimmer that I have has been discontinued . Those that still have one are selling them at a premium price of $75. I paid less than of that price for mine
If any thing happened to my trimmer and I had to replace it I would choke at paying that much for a paper trimmer , but I would pay it because I think it is the best trimmer not counting the Genesis .
Just my 2 worth

So glad you posted this tonight Barbara! I was working on a card tonight that needed 1 inch strips of paper and despite holding the track down on my Fiskars Sure Cut trimmer, the paper kept slipping as the blade moved through! It was so annoying.
I have weak hands so I was blaming it on that. I think I'm going to get this Tonic guillotine trimmer which Jennifer McGuire highly recommends:
PS totally agree about the Martha Stewart scoreboard! I don't think I've ever used that thing without my bone folder jumping out of the channel or tearing right through my paper :-(
I have Scor pal and ms scoreboard. I use scor pal because its built better and I have the newest 1/8" one. But I don't use any of the scoring tools that come with the boards. I use a stylus. Less jumping the tracks. I have two score tools and each has a different size ball on each end so I can choose from four different sizes.
There was a gentle rap on my door this Sunday morning and I opened it to find a box with my Tonic trimmer nestled inside. I think I ordered it Friday night. If there is a crafting fairy, Amazon is it!

I use the narrow rounded end of that tool that used to come with rub ons remember those?! Never had any luck with them but the tool does come in handy.
I also vote for the Tonic trimmers.......I have three different sizes and love them all. I also have the score pal and a Martha Stewart score board........I prefer using a stylus with the Martha Steward one and like them both equally. Got the MS one with a 50% off coupon at Michaels and it has been more than worth the $10.00 I paid.
I had a real problem with those flimsy plastic cutters and got a guillotine type cutter at my local office supply store. It cut fine and I could sharpen the blade. Then I saw the Fiskars precision rotary trimmer and got it. It is supposed to be self sharpening and so far it stays sharp even cutting glitter paper. But with both they are heavy and unwieldy and I have a hard time getting cuts to cut exactly where I want to cut like I can with the flimsy plastic cutters.
I love my old Stampin up guillotine trimmer and SU score board for larger items and my Scor Buddy for cards. If my trimmer ever breaks I don't know what I will do since SU don't carry it anymore.

I totally agree with this! I've had my SU guillotine trimmer for years and it still cuts perfect every time even with very skinny cuts.
I had a 6" tonic guillotine and it did get a bit blunt at one end. So I'm not so sure they are self-sharpening. Has anyone else had this happen? But I couldn't get another brand of guillotine here in Australia and so I replaced it with the 20 cm 8" tonic model . I also have a Fiskars 12 inch rotary trimmer, the purple and green one, yes it sometimes doesn't cut exactly right.
A guillotine can be used to trim a "smidge" . I doubt any rotary or track one can do that.
I have had my Tonic Guillotine for 6ish years now and it no longer cuts straight..not sure why. But i have a fiskars trimmer and i do really like it, but i will be getting another Tonic to use for heavier card and then use my trimmer for lighter card/paper.
