Has anyone had any success selling an original Red Sizzix? I'm reorganizing and the machine and those big ole dies take so much room. I can't remember the last time I cut something with it so it seems like it might be time to move it along. Is it sadly out of date or retro-cool?
Can't say about the machine as mine has been long gone but I kept some of my favorite dies because they are great for cutting through thick items that the thin dies just can't do it.
The "big ole dies" still work in the Big Shot...and they are still popular for their use.
"Big Red", as I call it ;) , gets used occasionally in my craft room but am thinking of purging him...or her. But my grandkids will get a kick out of using it...and they can't kill themselves with it...and it's heavy and pretty much indestructible. So, Big Red may stay.
I don't think you can get much for it. Even with the adapters to use with the wafer thin dies and all the other popular things, you can't use bigz dies in it. So, the demand is really low. It's too bad, really.
Thanks for the input, ladies. I may toss it on craigslist and see what happens, perhaps as a package with the dies and the Sidekick to make it more attractive. It's definitely got to be a local sale if it goes -- way too heavy to think about shipping.
Back in the day my Scrappin friend and I went halfs on the original Sizzix.
When I got my Cuttlebug I gave her the Sizzix full time. I did keep all the dies I paid for. Haven't used them... may have to revisit keeping them.

I was lucky enough to sell mine many years ago after I got my Big Shot. No regrets, I love my BS, which I had way before SU! carried it.
I keep all my dies. I love them and sometimes it's just easier to run it through the BS than anything else.
I think for someone starting out it can be a great, less expensive tool.
Good Luck with whatever you decide.

I bought one a couple years ago and I actually love it and use it a lot. It is so simple and no silly sandwiches to fuss with. I use it with alpha dies mostly. I also have an old green Cuttlebug that I tend to use for embossing and a brand new white Big Shot that I have yet to use, but plan to.

I am a dedicated Cuttlebug user who recently switched to Big shot. I love the Big Shot for intricate dies and wafer dies, but it's a pain in the platoot to fiddle with the tabs to use an embossing folder. I've cobbled together a weird combination of plates to minimize the fiddle factor, but it torks me everytime i do it. Never even thought about leaving my beloved Cuttlebug out for embossing!!! Thank you for mentioning this. . I'm outta here to go find some space in my stamp room for my Bug!
I agree Weluvstangs! No need to remember any order to stack things. Plus it isn't made out of plastic. I was lucky enough to find one for $36--and that included 3 alphabet sets and about 70 other dies. Can't justify upgrading to be able to use (and buy) big dies.
I hope I'm not hijacking this thread but I have a question or two about the original Sizzix also. I got one at our local Goodwill store over the weekend. In addition to the machine, I got 29 dies and the carousel they go in---all for $25.00. It only came with one pad though. Is that correct or do I need to buy another pad?
Grandmamarsha, you only need the one white cutting plate. You will need the system converter (magnetized "block" looking thing you insert) if you want to use embossing folders or thin dies like Sizzlits. Hope this helps!
Just an update -- I did put the Sizzix bundle on craigslist and sold it to someone who said she was going to use it for cutting quilting shapes. She's happy with a new tool and I'm happy with the freed up space (and a little cash in my pocket).
Kitty14, probably if you are using steel ruled dies. ( the thick ones like Original style Sizzix dies) they have a much deeper cutting blade than the thin metal dies.
Does anyone have the actual written instructions for original sizzix? If so would you be willing to scan & email to me? Non-profit I work for had one donated for use in 3rd world country. I would love to include instructions if possible. Most people there do not have internet so you-tube is not an option.
Not only do I have a couple of the thick sizzix dies but ones from a closed company that I think was called Top Dog? I have a wood one that I make one pass and I have a card in the shape of a diaper for shower (hmmm or maybe a senior joke card) or announcements....but they do take up serious space.

The steel rule dies are so great. I only have 3 but I cherish them because they cut EVERY TIME perfectly. I use them in my Big Shot. Does anyone know if the steel rule dies are sold anywhere these days?
I should have looked on Ebay before asking here. There are several for sale there.

Reason: Added last sentence.
Look on Ebay for someone you thinbk might have the instrution book. There are several peopoe selling supplies to make the dies, as well as several posting photos. I didn;t look at the whole site but asking there for instructions might work..
Surely a larger font could be used here! How ridiculous to have to read this tiny print.,

Yes, ma'am! I Googled "original red sizzix machine instructions" and found several helpful videos, but no true instruction books. I hope you have good luck in finding, or possibly writing out, some instructions. What a great idea to send crafting tools to others!
