Default Need help downloading fonts--Mac

I have a Mac with Microsoft Word for Macs. When I download a font it goes into my Downloads, but not into Word. I can't use them from there when I want to make my own sentiments. Is there a way to move them from Downloads to the fonts in Word? They are also in my Fonts Book, but I can't more them from there either. Clear as mud?? Any help would be appreciated.

Let me preface what I'm about to write by saying that I am in no way a computer wizard. But I do have a Mac and I have been able to download and install fonts without problem.

I download the font.
I open the download -- it is usually the font (has a .ttf suffix) and another file (ends with .txt)
I click on the font to open it -- that's the one with the .ttf suffix
That launches Fontbook.
Fontbook gives me the option to hit "install" - I hit install and the font goes in my fontbook and is also available in Word.

I hope it works out as easily for you!

Hi Vicki: Thanks for the info. I can get the font all the way to the Fontbook but can't get it into Word. When you say it is also available in Word, does it go there automatically or do you do something else to get it there?
Thanks.

Sorry it took me so long to answer.
I don't do anything else to make the font appear in Word - once it is in Fontbook, it automatically (magically?) goes to Word
