Default Mitsubishi Uni Colored Pencils

Does anyone have or have you tried these pencils? I have wanted to try them ever since I saw an article years ago that they had a set of 600 different colors. (It cost about $3500!!!!) I have never been able to find them available in the United States, but see they have a few sets of 100, 72 and 26 pencils available on Amazon now.

I am wondering how they compare to Prismacolor Premiers or other high quality colored pencils? Are the colors true to the pencil casing? Can they be blended with OMS?

I just have not been happy with my Prismacolors since they moved manufacturing out of the country.

Thanks.

I had not heard of these pencils, so I went to Amazon to look. The reviews seem to be very good, with the occasional sour grape thrown in. The people who love them really love them.

I did see that someone who is an artist and sells their work was disturbed because they were not light fast. I guess she was afraid the colors would fade if she sold something.

Someone else said they were similar to Prismas, but better. She said they were not as soft as the Prismas, and required more layering to build up color.

I have a set of Prisma Colors but don't use them very much as I prefer to color with markers.

By the way, these Mitsubishi pencils are made in Japan, so out of the country, too.

Thanks Buggainok!! They do look like they have a lot of pastel colors. I don't mind getting my art supplies from Japan - Copics are made there too. Japan seems to have developed and cornered the market on Manga supplies which cross over for cards and paper crafting. I have some very nice pens and the best white and gold gel pens I ever had were made by Sailor in Japan. I was so sad when they stopped manufacturing them. So far, I have not been disappointed with their products.

I think the Prismacolor problem may be that they might have changed the formula when the moved manufacturing to Mexico. The last set of 150 I saved up for and bought are terribly crumbly The color name, number and other information was stamped so poorly, I have no idea what color I am using, several had the leads "fall" out of the casing when picked up and the constant breaking of leads on new pencils right out of the box that were never dropped once purchased was the final straw. I have collected quite a number of the old Berol Prismacolors which are the better quality, but unfortunately, they did not have as extensive palette at that time. I am using up what I have, but not buy that brand any more.

It is hard to explain the satisfaction of coloring and blending with a good quality (non crumbling or constantly breaking) colored pencil. It just makes me so happy I want to sing and I miss that.

I know what you mean about how much you love using a good pencil to color.

My other hobby is crocheting and for my birthday I got a set of "gourmet" crochet hooks. They were ridiculously expensive compared to regular metal crochet hooks, but I love using them so much!

Skippet, have you tried Polychromos pencils by Faber-Castell? They are the cadillac of color pencils IMO.

There is a Separate thread about the faber castell pencils. But in summary - YES YES YES. The faber castell polychromas pencils are so creamy and wonderful to color with. Totally worth every penny
