Karen McK-

I'm surprised the Magnetic Platform doesn't fit into the opening of the Big Kick. I thought the BK was the same as the Big Shot except for the housing.

Sorry you are having this problem-

It does not fit in the cuttlebug.

Is there one made that does fit in the Cuttlebug? It is the only machine I have. If not, could the magnetic platform be cut to fit a cuttlebug? What is it made of? My hubby is pretty good with tools.

I don't know whether there is one for the cuttlebug. I haven't heard of one. Yes, the magnetic platform is something that could be trimmed down, it's really just a thicker piece of plastic with magnets inside of it. I am sure there is a saw blade that would cut through the plastic and hopefully not have to touch the magnets.... the magnets don't go all the way to the edge. Before I bought my big shot, I had some other plates that a friend's hubby cut down for me to use in my cuttlebug.

I guess my only caveat would be that if it is cut down, it would null and void any warranty so be sure you are ready to accept that if something doesn't go smoothly in the trimming process.

Happy crafting!

Default OPPS! Magnetic Platform

I got my magnetic platform, used it in my Vegabon and BROKE IT!! I didn't realize it was thicker than the base plate and used it to with an embossing folder and busted my machine. It has NO warning on it as I realize there is a picture on it to show how to use it. it is so close to looking the same as the other base plates that I made this mistake I'm sharing this so that NO ONE else will make the same mistake. I've seen where many have made the statement that this is a "replacement" to the other platform but it is NOT> hope this saves someone else from loosing their machine. I have to say I was disappointed that I could use it in the cuttlebug. I know it was a marketing decision but what a bummer. :( :(

I had the same problem. But you didn't make a mistake. They advertised it worked for the Cuttlebug. They didn't do their research and check that it would fit in the older Cuttlebugs as well as the newer ones. Not our mistake, theirs!!

As a nurse, I can tell you that for sure, the magnet would have to be pressed right up against your hubby's chest to affect him. Keep it 12" away or so and he will be fine. The magnets are not that strong.

Apparently, though I've not tried it, it fits in the new Cuttlebugs. The old ones are a smidgen narrower and so the genius doesn't fit. It is sooo close and even goes in but jams tight. I complained to Lifestyle Crafts and they refused to do anything because I didn't buy it directly from them. But the company I bought it from wasn't at fault because they didn't advertise it incorrectly! The company I bought it from went to bat for me (though they didn't say as much) but I know because suddenly lifestyle Crafts started to cooperate and offered me some compensation. I've kept the platform in case I ever get a new die cutter. How annoying that they didn't do better research!

I just ordered the Sizzix Magnetic Platform from Oozak yesterday and they have already shipped it, I should be getting it on Monday. I had signed up for 'notify me' as it was out of stock before. Oozak is the fastest at shipping of any of the online stores I order from. I have had exceptional service from them every time I have ordered, they are awesome. This product seems to be on backorder pretty well everywhere else so I consider myself extremely fortunate to be getting it so quickly. I can't wait to try it out!

The one I got from Stampin Up is clearly marked that it is only for use with thinlits and framelits, not any other dies or folders. What a shame that not all are like that!

As far as the magnetic pads that some of you have purchased that are too wide for the cuttlebug.... can you cut it? the magnetic spacer plate I have seems thin enough to cut with my heavy duty kitchen scissors - which are advertised to be able to cut through a check breast bone.

I am going to search for a self healing pad that I can shim to the thickness of an acrylic plate. I'll let you know what I find & if it works.
Hello everyone! Can someone please tell me who your self healing mat is by? What type of material is it? Where did you get it? I love love love the idea of using it and to never again have a warped acrylic plate!! Thank you in advance.

Joann's sells all sorts of sizes and thicknesses. Check out the quilting supplies or rotor cutting stuff. I got a clear one with a ruler grid for under $10 (less with the coupon) that was 14" x 14" I think.

My self healing mat is by Olfa. (5 1/2" x 8 1/2" approximately) You can find it in the quilting section of JoAnn/Michael's or a quit store. It's for use with those rotary cutters. Bet you can find it a business supply store in the section that sells Exacto products because you can cut using a craft knife and metal ruler.

Good luck-

I had already purchased the Lifestyle Crafts Genius Platform before SU came out with theirs and that one comes with two different thickness self healing pads. Since I didn't like that particular magnetic pad, I was not using it, so I had my hubby cut it the same size as the SU magnetic platform. Works like a charm! Love it!

The Genius magnet pad is 1) too long-- seems like you're cranking forever, but I'm sure there's a reason they designed it that way; 2) the magnets pull your dies all over. You can tell it's not one huge plate of magnet like the SU platform. Those were my two main beefs. So glad I was able to confiscate the self healing mats for something.

Yes, although I didn't cut mine to fit my machine, but rather to fit my drawer! I cut it to 12 x 12. I think I will just buy a smaller one and cut that down, if needed. Just wanted to let you know they can be cut down with heavy-duty kitchen shears.

Default SU Magnetic Platform

One thing I learned this past weekend when working on a swap while using the SU magnetic platform is that it works better when the cutting pads are flat. Mine was getting pretty bent and the framelits weren't sticking too well. Switched the cutting pad on the bottom and it worked great!

I love, love, love the magnetic platform!

After years of heavy use, my Cuttlebug finally bit the dust! Can still use it but almost need to do strength training first. This weekend I purchased the Big Shot & Magnetic platform while attending a Stampin' Up class. I also used one for the cards we were making in class and it was so smooth & easy to operate. Thanks to all of you for the great advice & letting me even know there was a magnetic platform! Can't wait to get it!

Has anyone tried embossing with the magnetic platform and dies. What sandwhich set up did you use?

Since I had the die already on the magnetic platform, I was hoping not to move it. But I wasn't having much luck last not with the embossing. Will play more with it today.

What are you trying to emboss with? An embossing folder? A nestsabilities die? Spellbinders? Maybe the product would have an explanation for the proper sandwich.

I measured the thickness of the mag platform (5/8") this is the same as the reg platform using tab 2.

Tab 2 & the mag platform is too thick for an embossing folder.

I embossed a framelit and a nestability - the sandwich is

Mag platform
standard cutting pad
paper
die cut side up
standard cutting pad

Basically, I would use the instructions on tab2 and then adjust for machine looseness, paper thickness, etc. Also, based on this we still need to keep our standard platforms.

Another positive vote - I got the Sizzix and used it last night for the first time and it's terrific - held that die right in place and I got a beautiful cut. Anything that makes things easier for me adds to the pleasure that I get when paper crafting in a big way

EEK! I am so glad to hear good things about the magnetic platform, I have had my eye on it, but it hasn't been in stock on Sizzix.com . I'm excited to get one.

Just to add - the SU platform has the warning - NOT A CUTTING SURFACE. Wish I had paid more attention before using the wrong sandwich (standard cutting pad, platform, card stock, die, cutting pad). Yikes!

Oh, dear, Patti. I hope it was only once that you cut it.

If you get into the habit of always putting the plates on TOP of whatever platform you're using, you'll save yourself some grief.

Yes - just once! One of those mistakes that only takes one time! I think it will e ok - just hate to see the cut marks on the platform. Too bad my OCD didn't kick in when I used it the first time ;)
