Default I don't like Magnolia Stamps...anyone else?

Please don't beat me up, it's just my opinion. There's just something about the images of those kids that I don't like. Just checking to see if anyone else feels the same way.

Not a fan of them either. Gorgeous items in the gallery using them, but they just seem a bit "odd" to me. This coming from the person who fell in love with Crafty from Stampotique. Ironic, I know!

They remind me of Joan Walsh Anglund who was really popular in the 70s. They were much cuter than Magnolia IMHO but unfortunately don't make stamps of the images.

Luckily, there are many, many different styles of stamps to choose from. It's nice that there's something out there for just about everyone.

Magnolia stamps are not really my thing but I must say that most of the Magnolia cards I see are beautifully coloured and amazingly embellished. The ladies that do like them and own them do a great job with their cards.

Personally I'm not a fan of any stamps with faces. Or bodies either, really. I don't know if it is the whole skin tone issue that scares me off or what, but I prefer images of things that are not people.

Yeah, I'm a weirdo.

I totally agree. These 'faceless' stamps are creepy to me and are definitely not my thing, but people using them do seem to put effort into coloring them beautifully.

I do not care for faceless images. I have received a few Magnolias from wish rak and I did use them for cards for HUGS & HOPE children to send to but I personally will not buy any.
SU Holy Triptych I liked but could not buy it because they had NO faces at all.

I like them; however, my teenage daughter who stops says the no mouth thing freaks her out so she always draws a mouth on the image. I just laughed and told her that I like my kids quiet so the "no mouth" thing works for me!

Same here! And I have to agree with previous posters that most of the artists that incorporate them are ROCKSTAR colorists!

There certainly have been posts on this in the past, along with winged kids, cupcakes with features, and the MFT headless stamps.
As for Magnolias, they do nothing for me. I don't like the little wings on the ones that have them, and I definitely don't like the no mouth. For me, drawing them on doesn't work either, because it's almost impossible to get a pen that looks exactly like the stamped image.
But I always think it's just as well that we all like different things!

I don't care for them at all...not only the lack of a face, but the cutesy style is just not me.

I know some people who dislike some of my favorite images, and it doesn't bother me! Thankfully we don't all have the same taste or it would be boring around here!!

I don't draw them on, I use another stamp from another of their lines to add a mouth and nose. My granddaughter thinks the missing features are a little weird so I made this one for her:

Magnolia stamps are definitely not my thing. The no mouth thing is way too creepy for me. There was a late-night radio serial horror show when I was a kid - kind of like Twilight Zone but different - and the only episode that ever gave me nightmares was called "Men Without Mouths". Over 30 years ago and it still gives me the creeps to think about it.

Personally, I think it's a good thing for my budget that there are some stamps that I don't care for!

Everyone is only talking about not having a mouth on that manufacture of stamps. What about the no nose and also the distorted head shape?

I feel it is making fun of people who really do have a medical problem and their faces are distorted in that fashion.

I see nothing cutsy about this brand of stamps at all.

I don't mean to offend the people who do use them. I just couldn't find myself purchasing them or giving a card with that kind of image on it. Nor would I want to receive one.

I'm not a stamp-type girl, they kind of make me freak out a bit. It's the whole gotta-color-it and somehow make it look like I'm really not in Kindergarten or something. I mean, just stamping makes me a little scared. Sentiments I can do. Easy enough for even me, but anything that requires any level of coloring and I start to panic. And yet I keep collecting stamps. Great stamps, ones I know someone who has skill could make awesome things out of. At least my cousins love them and use them often, so they are worth the investment and I just keep telling myself I will use them someday. LOL. It's been 10 years and I still go in and open the drawer and stare at them and say "What cute stamps" and close the drawer and never do much with them (unless it's a sentiment or some very easy kind of stamp). Now die cuts - well, those are my passion.

But as for the Tilda stamps, well way too much coloring for me so I'd never buy them but the no face thing does weird me out a little bit. However I love the mouth and nose that Happy Heart put on hers! You can't even tell it didn't come like that on the stamp and the coloring is beautiful (Happy Heart, could you please send me some coloring skills? Please?!?)

I don't think the stamps are really making fun of people, anymore than caricatures make fun of people with larger heads and smaller bodies. I really don't like caricatures, they just look very odd to me, but I know people that love them and despise geometric art or very intricate landscapes that I love. It's art and art is subjective. Different people liking different things is what makes crafting (and life) interesting, and I love seeing the coloring on intricate stamps or people stamps. I won't buy them though. I don't need more stamps. LOL

Now Gina K has some stamps I could buy. Those ones that stamp right on Nesties or punched shapes, no coloring needed. I think even I could do that.

I don't care for them. However I LOVE the Sugar Nellie Gorjuss girls, and they have no nose and mouth either. I really, really like the way the gorjuss girls look though. I guess the Magnolias do not look like cute little girls and boys to me, but the gorjuss girls do.

What a funny thread! I have seen so many gorgeous cards made with these stamps, but I really don't care for the stamps themselves. I'm not really into any kid or people stamps though, the skinny bellas, the headless MFTs or the faceless children. Just not my thing!

LOL! You know what they say...practice, practice, practice! I used to HATE coloring! Check out my earlier work and you'll see I wasn't very good at it. With practice and in trying to emulate some of the wonderful artists here, I gradually got better. Now it's one of my favorite things to do, along with cutting, which I also hated at one time!

I love cutesy stamps and have seen so many gorgeous cards with Magnolia images. It took me a long time to decide to get some ,and since my local stamp store has them in stock, I decided to buy one, well I ended up buying two because they looked so cute and I couldn't decide. Anyway, I colored them in and tried to make a card. It looked too weird with no mouth so I had DH draw a mouth in for me. It looked even worse. I only had them for like 3 days then I decided to sell them. I do like kids images, my favorites are sarah kay images, and I also like Elizabeth Bell images.
I still do love projects I see made with Magnolias, they are just not for me.

I don't like any images where the head is out of proportion, and it's all my mother's fault! When I was small, whenever we would see an image or figurine (ie Precious Moments) with a large head, she would sadly shake her head and murmer, "those poor, poor big-headed children".

Given that upbringing, it's no surprise that I'm a little creeped out by some of the stamp images that seem to be so popular right now. The cards themselves may be beautiful, but I dislike the image so much that I don't even look at the other aspects of the artistry.

I don't like them either, kind of goofy looking faces. However, I have to admit that Becca Feeken (http://www.amazingpapergrace.com) makes some awesome cards with them. But then, Becca can make some awesome cards with any stamps.

We can't all like the same style stamps, so I don't feel bad that there are some that I just can't stand to look at. We all have different tastes. I am a stampin Up demonstrator, and I don't like every single stamp set that is in their catalogs.

Big, blank faces...creep me out. A stampin' friend of mine detests House Mouse, which is understandable. Mice in your crockery, playing with your stuff! I love to make really cute house mouse cards just to hear her say "oooh, that's so cute...for a house mouse.'

Given that upbringing, it's no surprise that I'm a little creeped out by some of the stamp images that seem to be so popular right now. The cards themselves may be beautiful, but I dislike the image so much that I don't even look at the other aspects of the artistry.

I had to comment on that it made me laugh and reminded me of my own big headed child. I always had a time of pulling shirts over my one son's head when he was a baby. (Oh he grew into his head eventually LOL)
I dont think they are making fun of anyone though. When I first became aware of Magnolias and how many people liked them, I naturally didn't like them, because I didn't want to be a follower, but once I really got into stamping I couldn't help myself. I love all the stamps that have "people" or mainly kids, whiff of joy, stampavie, magnolias, the greeting farm ( they have really large heads, my daughter loves to color those they are easier then the smaller stamps for her) So I guess it is just preference. I do like image stamps if I can use them with the "people" stamps.

The title of this thread grabbed me immediately. I am a lover of Magnolia stamps and it was so interesting to read other people's opinions of them.

The interesting part was learning about other people's perspectives on something that I adore. I have to say that the look of the face (with the missing features) is what attracted me to them in the first place. In general, i am not lover of cutesy-type stamps but these images were just so expressive and adorable, I was captivated immediatly.

One person's floor is another person's ceiling....
