Good morning everyone!
I just got a Big Shot machine and bought a few dies and embossing folders to use. One of them is from Tim Holtz "Alterations" and the die is Movers & Shapers.
My question is how do you remove the paper from the die once it's cut?
The lady at Archiver's said this is a "design flaw" but I loved the die and thought I could come up with a solution. I haven't been able to without bending the die cut paper.
The other Sizzix dies I bought have a hole on the opposite side to pop out the paper. The back of this T.H. die is solid plastic.
Help?!
Thanks!
Arlene,
Thanks for the reply. I tried a pin and maybe it's me but I still ended up bending the paper.
I didn't think about drilling a hole in the plastic, that would work!!
I was surprised that this issue wasn't solved before the product was offered to the public. The two shapes are great but this is a pain.
I agree with you - i thought it was just me having a hard time getting the paper out of the die without ruining it. I love the shapes, but will think twice about getting any more.
Tim addresses this issue on his web site in one of his demo videos.
You can call Sizzix at 877-355-4766 and they will send you a FREE small magnetic insert that sits at the bottom of the die and does not cut anything; but just prevents the shapes from getting stuck in there. You can also email them but he didn't give the email address on the video. I imagine if you go to the Sizzix web site you can find an email there.
In addition, Tim mentions that the newer dies are actually shipping with this magnetic piece included along with instructions on how to use it and why. But if you bought the dies when they first came out you will want to call or email for the free piece.

Reason: more info.
thanks for the heads up on Tim's website demos. He did address the problem at the end of demo #2.
Still I had to laugh when he said, "Obviously no one knew, including me, this would be a problem."
If anyone, dare I say.....including him, yikes! used the die one time the problem is VERY obvious.
I'm just glad there is a solution because these are really cool dies.
Oh and I just bought this at Archiver's so they must have some old stock, AND they have no idea of this solution from Sizzix so I'm going to call and tell them about it.
Thanks again!

I think sometimes artists don't think about the obvious. We see a 2 beautiful lables that should just fall away from the die when cut. They see, well you can put the key holes or the hole punch if we leave the center open.
My brother is more artsy than I... If we were having that conversation I would ask about the paper getting stuck when not using a magnetic peice. I can just see my brother having that gloriously bewildered look on his face as he asks why on earth I would want to use the die without a magnetic peice...
This happens in the monthly die cutting class I go to each month (we use mostly tim holtz) all we do is use a scalpel to get up a side then slowly slide it under and it all coems out without bending
I just bought Tim's styled labels die today & I was about to pull my hair out struggling to get my paper out of the dies! I ended up trashing the cuts because it got poked & bent beyond recognition. You would think people test these products before it goes to production. They would have encountered this frustrating problem on the first cut!
Anyway, I'm glad I found this old thread. I'll contact Sizzix tomorrow for the inserts instead of returning the die to my LSS.
Pegg,
I called them at 877-355-4766 months ago when I first had this problem and they sent out the magnetic pieces right away. I'd try calling them.
Good luck!
I sent them an email last night & they replied this morning saying that the pieces will be shipped. I hope it gets here soon so I can enjoy using Tim's dies!
