Lots of tutorials on YouTube done by SU demos using SU inks for sponging. Totally do-able.
I own and like the Distress Inks because of the extra water-reactivity and the colors. But if all you want to do is sponge, no need to buy special ink for it. Good sponging is more about technique and what you use to sponge with. And if you just want to apply ink to an EF, then you should have no problems.
