Default Cuttlebug Alphabets

I wondered about getting an alphabet die cut set so that I could use them to make words on my cards. I read somewhere that they are too large for cardmaking but are intended for scrapping.

So:

1. Are any of the alphabet sets suitable and if not what is the alternative?
2. Are they all individual diecuts or do you cut the whole aplhpabet each time?

Many thanks
Liz

Default CB alphas

I'd like to know too! I've had my eye on a few. I wish the sizes of the letters were listed with the rest of the info. I've always had that problem with alphas that I've bought ( the rubber variety). Alot of stamp e-stores would not list the sizes, so I voted with my feet and didn't shop there!

Some of the letter sets are only a half inch tall. You can easily write many names on cards --- maybe not Henrietta Elizabeth.

At Creative Express you can see that the size of each die is 2"x6". But, each die might cut out 8 or 12 letters at a time. So individual letter size depends on which type style you buy.

Link: CreativeExpress

PS: Some of the sets are on sale right now.

Hello

Doesn't look like anyone has posted a card with the "Typewriter" set. I think that one is the smallest.

You can purchase the Quickutz 2 x 2 metal "squeeze" die alphabets. they are compatible with Cuttlebug. Get them online or on ebay.

They have mini and skinnimini alphabets that are only 1/4 to 1/2 inch high.

Try Metro & Studio (Skinnymini) and Blossom (mini).

Also, Uptown Girl font has small lowercase letters and nice uppercase letters that are big, but skinny, so you can stack 'em or use them as initials, etc.

Thank you for taking so much trouble Garnet J- I think the Red Tag Sale is going to be far too big. The Olivia looks much nicer - I wonder who has used typewriter on cards?

I just bought some Sizzlits alphabets, and the letters are quite small-- 5/8" I think they say. They would be a nice size for a card, and they are compatible with the Cuttlebug.

Hi Liz,

here ist the link to a german shop: paper-memories.de/index.php?cont=impressum (I'm not allowed to post links yet)

Listed with each (or at least most of all) alphabet you will find the size of the uppercase letters....you will just have to convert centimeter in inch....

i love using my cuttlebug letters! i have you're not the boss of me and red tag alphabets (i seem to use this one more and have seen a lot done with it for cards). as far as your question about cutting the entire alpha at once--there are 4 or 5 letters on each die, upper and lower case in most cases (ha!). so to avoid cutting letters i don't need and to save on cardstock, i just cut my paper small enough to cover that particular letter i need. done deal!

...and what glue/adhesive do you use if mounting letters direct onto the card?

I just finished placing an order with Creative Xpress for the Harmony and Olivia alphas so I certainly hope they are not too big! I got them for $32 each! I think that's less than 1/2 of what they were originally; I like that they come with the numbers and some other things too, like flowers, a tag, brackets, etc. I'm inspired by Starofmay's wonderful cards using letters, in fact, the 'Thickers' that she uses sometimes were on sale too!

I use my small "X" xyron 150. This makes it so easy to attach the letters to the cards.

Which Xyron are you using to adhere the letters? I have seen a little X shaped one for making stickers at WM. Can you use this? How does it work? Do you need a xyron to do it? I think I have seen on this site where someone said that they used the Xyron adhesive, but without the machine. Is this possible?

I scrapbooked Saturday and was adhering alot of letters for titles on my different pages. I used my Xyron X (is that the 150?) and tried this new-to-me product linked here, the Sakura Quickie Glue Pen-

http://www.createforless.com/product...utm_medium=cse

I am sold on the Sakura Quickie glue pen and will be purchasing alot more of these to keep in my stash! The Xyron X left glue "threads" on all the letters used for it (I rubbed the front and back of the strip before removing the letters - that helped alittle, but I still had the glue threads and it was irritating to me). The Sakura pen gave me no headaches whatsoever - the glue flowed beautifully and never clumped up like the other glue pens I've used... it's hard to describe, but if you've used glue pens with the little wick-stick, you may know what I mean. The Sakura pen is made with a steel ball point and "writes" like a regular pen - I'm really sold on it for detail work. I made sure and put the little plastic ball back on the pen tip when I was done scrapbooking (then put the cap back on), and used it again today without any issues of a dry tip or impaired flow. I'm pleased with it so far! Hope this helps alittle regarding the adhesive question mentioned above...
