Default Creativation 2019 Wishlist

I'm home with a cold this weekend and when I'm not buried under the covers I'm trying to watch all the videos. So far my wishlist is:

Oxide Sprays (ordered from Marco's)
We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill (so hoping this is a 'hit' in their 'hit-and-miss' tools)
Paper Fashion Make Your Own Watercolor Paints (don't need it but it looks cool)
ThermoWeb Flocking Papers (I love flocking but its so had to find/work with and its expensive)

1. Oxide sprays.
2. Oxide sprays.
3. Oxide sprays.

If I was into foiling I’d wait a long time before getting the WRMK Foil Quill. While I love the envelope punch board, some products - not all - seem to be cheaply made and/or don’t work well, including relatively simple ones. So something as complicated as the Quill? Pass until proven.

BTW, they’ve been part of American Crafts for quite a while.

I had not heard of the oxide sprays, until reading this thread. Something new, I assume?

Shirl
Hi Shirl,

Yes, the sprays are new. Here's a video from Creativation 2019 where he demos them:

I'm looking forwards to:

Simon Hurley's new inks and 'boy' stamp sets

Tonic Studios Nuvo Stone Drops--the have a pebbled finish. Also their 'Dream Drops' in really pretty 'dreamy' light colors.

Tonic is already releasing some really cool dies. Mermaids (always a fave!) and some sleeve dies that are a really neat design I can't describe.

Hero Arts is releasing some 'really large' word dies. I'm all over that one.

Of course, but not as many as ink pads. I'm loving those yet.

How about this? I would like it better if it were smaller, like 8X8 or 6X6. Maybe they will do a mini down the line. Like the ruler and the not nuts magnets.

I was thinking about this mat for working with stencils, then I saw in a YouTube demo that her stencil shifted even when she had it magnetted down. She seemed to have thought that she was starting to move the stencil anyhow, but I replayed it a few times and that is not what happened.

So anyhow, now I am not so sure.

I would like something to make stenciling easier....

They did show that WRMK positioner accessory, the new peg hole stencils but you are limited to using their six or so stencils and you still have to anchor what’s underneath.

Ditto. Guesstimate is 85% pads/15% sprays. Or 90/10.

I follow what Tim now does - use a small - not large - Sticky Grid sheet under the CS or watercolor paper. I use it on his glass mat but it can be on any surface.

So the CS doesn’t move. Then the stencil has tape on the top of it to make a hinge so you can lift it up without changing the position to see if you need to apply more ink or paint. You could also add tape to the bottom.

I was skeptical but have used a sheet maybe 15-20 times and it’s fine. I stick it to a plastic bin on a ledge when done.

I almost bought the larger Sticky Grid but he points out since it’s larger than cards, if paint or other medium gets on it, it will lose its stick. I’ve used the small one for an 8.5x11 sheet of paper too.

Cheap, easy. Here’s a Creativation video about his shifter stencils where he demos Sticky Grid at first. He’s shown it on other videos too.

Hero Arts had a nice but kind of long video. They are 45 years old. The son is carrying on the business his mother started. Kind of heartwarming. Someone brought in a 37 year old ink pad and it was still working. Just kind of nice to see a good company that has survived. I didn’t realize that had a giving program.

howdyheidi. do you mean metal stencils? If so, have a look at from a lady called Lucy Ellis of Sweet Poppy stencils here in the UK. She shows you how she sets her stencils up, and I can vouch for how well it works.

Good video. I liked the way she turned it to avoid run under. I don't know what that tool is but maybe a kitchen bench scraper would work. Looks like it might be better than using a pallet knife.

One of the companies demo'd a plastic scrapper like that. I watched so many videos I can't remember which company right now. But I do remember watching and thinking 'wow, I could've been using a bench scrapper all this time!'. The plastic one demo'd seemed a bit flimsy on the video.

The one in this video is longer that a bench scrapper. Maybe something from a clay tool line?

I have an extra wide bench scraper since I bake big free form loaves. I’ll give it a try. I like that you can do it in a sweep or two. I love these UK videos. So much innovation.

Not watched the video but know that Sweet Poppy sell a tool for applying their stencil pastes so guessing that is what is being shown. It's a specially designed tool.

Yes, Sweet Poppy do have a tool, this is it. Dreamweaver do a similar one, but that is more of a semi circle than this one. Used to have that one, but I find this squared off one easier to work with.
It's just under 7" x just under 3".

Do you mean the Sticky Grid Sheets? They’re been around a while and are great! They aren’t tape, actually, but stick well and don’t leave any residue, whether when holding paper down for stenciling or on die cutting plates.

I’m curious about how the new Deco Metallix Gel (in Gina K’s booth) compares to something like Inka Gold. Maybe the consistency...

The only thing that is saving me from this is that it's so big. I need a mini version. Want to hear how you like it. Seems like a good idea.

For stenciling I had two requirements: movable surface and CS or WC paper that did not move.

So I often stencil on a small, thin cutting board that’s moved for drying if using paste or lots of water. A small Sticky Grid sheet holds the CS or WC paper very well (thank you Tim), and the stencil can be hinged with tape. I mainly use *yellow* Frog tape.
When not using much water, the Sticky Grid sticks to a Tim glass mat but it would work on any surface.

I had an acrylic clipboard so use that for larger paper, but the cutting boards come in different sizes. (I am too skilled at moving magnets that are not supposed to move, especially at the very end of a project.)

If desired, a grid could be copied onto acetate and adhered to the board.

Here’s a cutting board like mine, though mine was from Bed, Bath & Beyond, and stolen from my kitchen:
