Anyone know if Copic Markers are that much better then Touch markers (made by Shinhan art). No one around here sells Copic markers but the local art store does sell Touch markers. I went there today and the employee I talked to insisted Touch markers were the same, just much cheaper! I wanted to order the Copic originals are touch markers the same as copic originals?
Touch markers are alcohol ink so it that respect they are the same and all the tutorials etc that you see would work out the same way. Copics (Original and Sketch) are refillable and the nibs are replaceable so you get a 'lifetime' pen.
I haven't used Touch markers but I believe they have a chisel nib and a bullet nib so that's the same configuration as the Copic Original (Sketch have a brush nib). I have to say though that I do have some Tria markers as well as some Copics and the quality of the nibs is by far and away better on the Copics - maybe that's not helpful information but it might translate to checking out how you feel about the nibs on the Touch markers. Does your local store have try-out markers that would help you decide?
no my local art store only carries touch markers so I have no way to comparing touch to copic.
i really appreciate your reply. i know copic original and touch do have the same nibs but i wonder if they are the same size?? the touch are on sale for $1.95 so I wouldn't be too disappointed if they didn't last that long.
If you could try out the Touch before you buy you could at least decide whether you like the feel of the pen. For example, I'm not that keen on the chisel nib (I have mostly Sketch but a couple of Original) but love the brush one so Touch probably wouldn't suit me that well if I was planning to cover fairly large areas of colour. I guess at that price you could buy one or two to try out and decide based on those whether you want more or not.
I am definitely going to go and pick up some touch markers. I have been looking on the internet and I can't find a price even close to $1.95 (the price this store has them on sale for!). I will let everyone know what I think.
At Hobby Lobby where they sell the Copic Markers, they have a pad of paper to scribble on.. maybe you could stamp an image on some paper and take it into the store and try out a few of the markers to see if they color the image how you would like.. stamp a few images to try them out.. I have never heard of them.. but if they were the same quality as the Copic markers, I'd snatch them up at that price.. I just bought 12 more copics on Saturday.. they ain't cheap!

Has anyone else tried these markers since the original post?
A local art store has these on sale for $2 per marker until the end of the month. I have a small collection of Copic Ciao markers and thought I could fill in some of my colours with these more inexpensive ones.
From the trying out I did in the store, they appear to be very similar to the Copics and I can get basically 2 for 1 over what I pay for the Ciaos.
Jennifer- I have tried both of these markers now! I must say copics are much better. I found that touch markers bleed a lot more then copics. For $2 though I think they are totally worth it until you save up enough to get the real thing- copics. I still own some touch markers in the colors I don't have copics in. I hvaen't tried blending the two. I would assume since they are both alcohol based they would blend similar to copic-copic though.
I think they're hard to come by, that's probably why there haven't been tons of people replying. I've been trying to find them myself and I've only found one place online that sells them. I can't find them in any store.
If I saw them at my local art store I would buy just one and see how it works with the copics.

PS I have bought one Tria marker and two Neopiko pens. The Neopiko aren't good but the Tria is excellent.

Thanks ladies! I bought a few in colours that I'm lacking in my Copics. I'll give them a try later this week and see if I can blend them with my Copics.
As you said for $2 each, I'm willing to give them a shot.....less than a coffee at Starbucks LOL!
I'll report back later.
For Canadian ladies......the markers are on sale at DeSerres art store (formerly Loomis) so if you want to get a few they're on sale for $1.99 until the end of September.
I have purchased Ciao markers at Oozak for $2.63 each and free shipping for an order over $50. Not much more than the $2 per marker that you are talking about with Touch.
Touch Markers are just as good and yes, cheaper! I also wanted to buy Copic Markers, but my teacher recommended Touch Markers. They color and blend just as well!

I have collected all the Touch markers and I love them! Does anyone know if there is a comparison colour chart out there matching the Touch colours to the Copic? Thanks to anyone that can help!
I have never heard of touch markers, but then I never heard of copics until a couple of months ago....neither touch nor copics are easily available unless you online shop, which I don't. I have found someone who will order copics, but not sure I am going to invest much more in this since I don't do a lot of coloring. I bought some basics (red, green, yellow, blue, orange) but I guess if you don't have them in a series you can't really blend them. Maybe if I had a class on how to use them, I might get more involved, but with no one selling them, no one is offering classes either.
Funny this should pop up here! I have just started collecting the Touch Twin markers, and got my first batch yesterday, then turned around and ordered more! I don't have Copics to compare to either, but they are a huuuuuge leap from the Neopiko markers I have been using.
The thing I'm curious about....... the box for the Touch markers says that replaceable tips are available, and that all ShinHan markers are refillable, with 168 colors of refill ink sold separately. I can't find a source for those anywhere online. I have an inquiry in to a sales rep in Korea, so we'll see what info that brings.
I got this info back from Blick - can someone else call and post here? I'm in another country.....
Hello Dina,
I checked several sites, and was unable to find the tips and refills you mention, even at the site dedicated to the markers. I am not certain they are still being offered. You may want to contact the vendor at 202-276-5373.

...also I found this sale, $1.99 per marker, buy 12 get one free + free shipping.... but my order would not go through, and they did not respond to my email. Maybe someone else will have better luck? Great price, but... ?? Touch Twin Markers
If you order through ASW, they will match the lower price at the site above, and give you a $10 credit on your order, but their shipping is $6.95.
My posts were deleted because the Mods thought I was a business and needed to advertise with them - lol! I was overzealous in letting everyone how much I love my Touch markers so I can totally see where they were coming from! We have that all cleared up now! I have NO business(es) and am not affilated with anyone in anything I don't have a stamping/scraping/craft blog (my blog was of my bicycling rides and my activities in Alaska).
I currently own 3 types of markers; Copic Caio, Shinhan Twin Touch and old, discontinued Design markers. I have some DickBlick Studio markers on order.
I would LOVE to own every Copic color available but just can't afford them. I think I would perfer the Copic Original over Caio because I prefer a fine tip over the brush.
I would LOVE to own every color of Touch marker but same $ problem.
I DON't want any more Design brand markers (an obsolete brand, I got these markers over 13 years ago but most of them are still working fine) because they smell so badly they are hard to use.
I have a lot of Touch markers which I love. They are alcohol based and no odor or almost no odor. I found out about them from Splitcoast Stampers forums when I was researching the cheapest place to buy Copics. I was able to get mine from Art Supplies from Dick Blick Art Materials for $2.19 each when blick was having a sale.
I have a few Copic Caio's also purchased form Dick Blick for $3.22 each (Blick has decent shipping to Alaska so I use them as much as I can). Dick Blick carries the full Copic lineup and their prices are "up to 30% list prices" . The last are some alcohol markers called "Design" which are over 13 years old and smell super bad but still are juicy. All three of these brand of markers work play nicely with each other and all blend very nicely together. The Touch and Copic are definitely higher quality than the Design markers but i don't know if the age of the Design marks contribute to that..they are obviously pretty good markers if they are still going after 13 years.
I have an order in with Dickblick for a few of their store brand studio markers which are $1.59 if you buy 12 or more. They are supposed to be compariable to PrismaColor, which I have never used but have heard good things about from reading some manga forums but not on the Copic level. There is no mention of smell ...so I am wondering if they will be like my stinky old faithful Design markers. If they smell, they will be avoided unless I absolutely must use them.
Out of the 3 brands of markers I have, Touch is my favorite because of their quality, value, no odor and design, I find them more comfortable than the big round body of the Design markers. Touch barrel is smaller and squared, like the original Copics. The Caio is comfortable but i personally have a bit of trouble with the brush tip, it's not fine enough for me when doing small detailed work. Maybe I should be "dabbing" instead of "stroking". The Touch fine nib is what I prefer for fine detail. The Design markers are used as last resort due to the stink and some of the nibs have worn out, not replaceable like Copics.
I called the Touch company yesterday and was told some exciting news but don't know if I can share it, I have an email to them asking if I can. I forgot to ask them if the Touch markers need to be stored horizontally. Since Copics and the Design markers dont have to be stored horizontally, I'm guessing that the Touch markers don't either. I will probably email Dick Blick to see if their markers need to be stored horizontally.
Touch markers can be hard to find. Dick Blick doesn't carry all their colors and Carpe Diem doesn't either. I read here on the forums that Carpe Deim is out of stock a lot. The person I talked to at Shinhan Touch said that Carpe Deim is not going to be restocking the Touch markers but Pearl Arts carries all colors but their prices are higher than Dick blick.
I hope this post is OK and the information is acceptable. Again I am not promoting anyone for anything except strictly based on my personal preferance based on the factors I mentioned above. Members here turned me on to a marker that works really well for me and I see a lot of questions asking about marker quality and affordability so I just wanted to pass on an affordable, quality product and where it can be purchased.
Until now no replaceable tips and refill inks are available. But the manufactor is in development so hopefully mid of 2011 these products will be available on the european market.
With kind regards,
Alexander Bachinger
(still not sure why they would print this on the packaging, if it is not available yet?)
I wrote a little review on the markers on my blog with a colored sample, link is below.
Well, I haven't heard back form ShinHan USA yet but he didn't tell me I COULDN'T share the news..
They will also be introducing the new Touch markers which are refillable and have replaceable nibs in early summer 2011 here in the USA also!! Yay!!! The ink is not changing, same great quality and colors.
I asked about the price point was told this will not increase the cost too much.
Very exciting!!! I was worried about the few vendors running out of the Twin Touch because they seem to be on clearance..I guess this is why, they are clearing out this older style for the new ones
I went to a store that I thought had Copics, but it turned out that they were Touch. The store owner told me that the Touch markers was made in the sme factory as the Copics and with the same ink. I dont know if this is true though!
I sent an email to Blick to see when they would be restocking the new style Touch markers - apparently they are not thinking of carrying the new ones, but the CS rep that contacted me said she would let the buyer know that there was interest out there - I did respond and tell her that there was wide interest in the stamping community in less expensive alcohol markers, so we'll keep our fingers crossed... I would love to see them carry the brush markers too. If you're interested in the new Touch markers, you might consider writing to Blick and letting them know.
Blick has the best shipping to my area, I would be SAD if they didn't carry the new line!! I will email them. Copic and Touch are not made by the same factory. I have 50 Copics and about 100 Touch markers and although they both use the same techniques and can be used together, there are very visible differences in the inks when they are next to each other - some copics colors are very splotchy or speckled - due to their dye density and drying agents and paper substraites, where Touch are much less speckled.
My Touch Twin markers arrived that I ordered from ebay! Yea!!! I baught 120 markers for $124, that's about $1 per marker. They are the original style, not refillable, but come out cheaper than bics! I had to order from a seller in China...and wait for delivery, but it was worth it. I plan to replace them individually with the new refillable ones. This way, I can start out with a large set!
I am assuming the Copic blender pen will work with these?? (considering it's the same ink as Copic....)
I don't have the Copic blender but I think it should work. I use my copics with my Touch markers all the time and I have used a Prismacolor blender with both. I don't use the blender much.
Wendy-J, is there a specific seller you ordered your Touch Markers from on E-Bay? How do you like them thus far? I really want to get into the whole Copics thing, but the price is so not in agreement with my budget. Your purchase price intriques me greatly.
Thanks

There are a couple of different sellers with good prices that offer free shipping.
These are most likely the older style markers with the paper band labels and older numbering system. They are good markers too, but each newer 'model' is a bit different.
The new style markers will be in stores in the next few weeks and are highly improved (new shape and feel, refillable, replaceable tips). Here's what they look like: http://www.shinhanart.com/
I emailed Dick Blick and asked them to carry them but never got a response from them, I will try again. What a great video, I really would love to try out the new markers! I also want to get the refills so I can use them in spray bottles and instead of Ranger's Alcohol inks in the little bottles.
