I have just started to play with copic markers. The moment I saw RV66 I had to have it. Following "the rules" I also bought RV63. I was so disappointed when I tried to get the two colors to blend evenly together. The RV63 pushed the RV66 right through the paper, no matter how light a touch I used. There just seemed to be too much of a difference even though they're only 3 #s apart. Sadly, I gave up on them..... until I read your posting.
Hope has returned. Is there a particular technique you used in your class to get these two colors to blend evenly?
I don't have my copics in front of me as I am on vacation so I can't try RV66 and RV63, but I picked up on a phrase in your comment and that was " pushed it right through the paper". Copics ARE actually supposed to bleed through. I teach my cardmakers that they haven't colored enough unless the backside of the paper looks colored also (in a watercolory sort of way). It's the only way of getting the rich, continuous color that Copics are famous for! That pushing through the paper is part of RV63s way of mellowing the RV66 heading toward a good blend.
I started getting colors 1 or 2 apart, but now I often blend with colors 3 or 4 apart - it just seems richer that way.
I bet if you keep coloring with the RV63 - do NOT use a light touch - you will be happier with the results!

Are you trying to blend these colors in a very small space? I have a link where I used RV63 RV66 with RV69 and I love that color combo...but it can be hard to get a seamless blend in a small spot unless you use the tip to tip coloring method...pick up some of the RV66 on the tip of your RV63 marker and color with that until it blends back to the RV63 color.
I took a class last week and we used two of the new colors RV66 and RV63 combined with RV00. Its a beautiful combination. It doesnt bleed as much or is as intimidating as some of the reds.

Here is the card we made using the above color combination. We just took RV 66 and colored around the edges of the dress and bow. Then we came in and using the RV63 pulled some of the color from RV66 blending. Then we blended it all with RV00. I am not sure but I think it was Neenah paper.

Great news! Tip-to-tip blending is perfect for extending your color range when you are either short on markers or there is not a perfect blending partner available. Glad it worked well for you!
I love-love-love my COPICS! ????? How do you use them with rubber stamps?? I was trying to use them with Su "Inspired with Nature"-can't see the ink-and dries before I get it to paper-HELP!!!TIA!!
I am a copic newbie, with just a couple, but looking to purchase some Christmas Reds, Greens, copics to do reindeer, snow & jewel tones for Christmas Cards. I am finding the charts hard to see the reds, and there doesn't seem to be as many reds as other colours.
I'd like to get 2 in each shade to begin with, if you have recommendations or link to a card, I'd love to get your input and help along with the best paper to get for them.

Hi Blujay, I was asking the same question a few weeks ago as I didn't have any Copics and wanted some "Xmas" colours. I bought 4 reds, R17, R29,R46, and R59. I have been mostly using R29 and R46, although there is not quite enough difference for my liking. I found R59 a little too dark for shading I think, and R17 a little light for a Xmas red. I also bought 2 greens, G94 and G96. They were the colours I was advised at my LSS, but I don't think they are a bright enough green for me. I also bought two greys, W7 and W5 for Santa's boots and my Xmas penguin stamps, I am happy with those. Still I will add to my collection as I go along. I think I will try and do a class as soon as I can as some pointers would be a help. I usually use Prismacolours, and I am using a combination of them and Copics quite often now. I just saw your post and wanted to reply because this is the only place I know of that does refills for copics. It's on-line but you ship em there they refill and ship em back.. I think I am going to send some of mine in it's cheaper then buying the ink, kwim. any rate here you go:
I remember seeing a post on places to get your copics refilled at about $2 each. I thought it was at hobby lobby or some large chain store. I also saw an online add for a Copic refill club. I can't find any of these posts now! Can someone help me out? I know about MFT but that doesn't sound like what I remember. Thanks!!
This box looks SO COOL, I need to make one. It looks really easy and you don't need any tools other than what is already laying around the house! Be sure to follow the link to her blog, she has a bunch of photos there.

I hate it when I do this...find an interesting tutorial/video, read/watch it and then move on. Later, when I have digested the info, I wish I had bookmarked it or saved it to my tutorial file I cannot locate it! This is what brings me to the board today...I recently watched a video where the artist used Copic refill ink and Q Tips to do a sky and grass background. I would like to track this video down again and, of course, can't find it. Has anyone else run across this and possibly had sense enough to SAVE the link? Maybe someday I will learn! LOL! TIA!

Thanks, Maggie for the link to the video. I wish I had seen this before I placed my Copic order! I would have ordered a bottle of BG000 refill for this sky technique. What a great alternative to airbrushing - which I was never going to buy all the stuff to do.

When you are stamping to color with Copics, you want to use Memento inks by Tsukineko. You can stamp and start coloring right away, there is no need to heat-set and the markers will not smear the color. Oozak.com | MEMENTO | TSUKINEKO | Pads & Inkers

Also, the paper is very important. A lot of people like Neenah but I don't - it is too soft for me and the color wicks too easily. The Copic X-Press-It blending card is the BEST and Oozak carries that as well. However that is very expensive and you will want to practice your technique a lot. I LOVE the HP Color Laser Printer Paper. It is about $15 for a whole ream at the office supply store. It is a heavier weight than the Hammermill brand. It blends beautifully without wicking. It is so good that a lot of the time I will just firmly glue stick the back of what I've colored and adhere it to the cheap white Georgia Pacific card stock I buy at Wal-Mart. Then I can cut it with nesties, mount it with pop-dots, whatever. You can see lots of examples of this on my blog.
I also keep this paper in my laser printer for printing digi stamps to color with Copics. Laser printing is best for coloring with Copics as it will not smear. That can be a problem with ink jet printouts. Others on this forum can tell you how they cope with that.
When you color, the ink goes through the paper or card stock. Always keep a clean sheet of scrap paper underneath your coloring.

We all know Copic markers can be expensive, I held off on buying them..until today! Michael's has a coupon for 45% off artist markers. What was $6.99 is only $3.85 thru Saturday. They do have a limited selection though but it's a great savings for those starting out to build their collection.
Has anyone had a problem getting their orders from OOzak? I placed an order on July 22 for $300 (B-day gift from my hubby and kids) so I could take advantage of the prices before they changed. It took 3 weeks and MANY phone calls to finally get my order. Eventually I was able to speak to a manager and he said that even though the items showed as 'in stock' when I placed the order on line they actually didn't order from Copic until after orders were placed with them and then had a hard time filling orders. Since they did have markers that showed 'out of stock' I felt like I had been scammed. Then I was offered a deal to order the new colors at a discount and that they would send me an email with a link, guess what? Yep, no email. I was so disappointed because I ordered in plenty of time to get them before a surgery I had scheduled and since I would be on bed rest for a few weeks I thought I would get to play, by the time they came I only had a week left at home and had to spend that time getting the kids ready for school before I went back to work.
So many others here love that site and I had it bookmarked for future purchases, but I'm going to remove them after posting this. Poor customer service is a HUGE pet-peeve for me. Personally, I believe companies that show "in stock" when they don't have the actual merchandise are unprofessional and skittering on the edge of unethical.
I have ordered Copics from DickBlick.com and Otakufuel without any problems.
My DickBlick.com order included a couple of the new colors and the Website noted they'd not be available for a week. I thought my order would be held. Instead, DickBlick sent me my current order with a notice that I'd be getting my "backorder" colors directly from the manufacturer, which shipped them right on time. My Otakufuel order was placed just days before the Aug. 1 price increase. I was a little hesitant, because the site looks like it's put together by a bunch of animation fans, but was pleasantly surprised. My order arrived quickly and even included a little "hello kitty" candy as a thank-you. What I really like about Otakufuel is that Copics ship free as long as you order 3 or more markers. I've ordered from Oozak once with no problems, and from Dick Blick several times with no problems. I definitely prefer Blick whenever the have one of their good sales.

WOW I have ordered ALL of my Copics from Oozak and NEVER had a problem and got them in 3-4 days. I have never placed an order for something that showed as in stock on the site and then it was out of stock. Rusty ships the same day for all ordered that are placed before 3:30 Eastern time.

I don't know what happened with your ordered but that is not the experience I have had. I won't buy my Copics from anyone else
