Default best type of ink for stamping vellum?

I tried a search but couldn't find a quick answer.... What is the best type of ink for stamping vellum. Or, what if you wanted to emboss it?
Thanks so much... Tiffany (newbie)

Hi Tiffany - Brilliance inks (made by Tsukineko) work really nicely on vellum. They take a little while to dry but not too long and they do really dry! If you wanted to emboss then they'd work for that too as they're pigment inks.

HH!

Great! Thanks! So, pigment would be better than dye?

Stazon is another option. As a solvent ink, it is designed for stamping on nonporous or glossy surfaces. Vellum is closer to a nonporous surface.

Pigment ink will not dry on vellum. You could try embossing it, but vellum often "warps" from the heat gun and I personally don't like how it looks afterward.

Ummm, this could get confusing! Dye inks won't dry on vellum, they'll kind of bead up. Most pigment inks will also not dry on vellum but although it's a pigment ink, Brilliance works just fine. I've managed to emboss on vellum without the warping problem but it depends a bit on the quality of the vellum - if it's thin then it will be more prone to distort with the heat.

Stazon will indeed work just fine. I confess I tend to fight shy of suggesting Stazon since it needs extra clean up for your stamps and it's more expensive to buy (especially as you can buy Brilliance in the little dew drops and Stazon only comes in full size pads).

I'm guessing a hybrid ink would also work (Pallette, for example) but I don't have any here so I can't try it out for you.

What's your project and what effect do you want to achieve?

Okay! The pigment ink I used did not work b/c it smeared this morning! I was stamping a little sentiment on a piece of vellum for the front of a card! (the first card I've ever made!! I'm a newbie!) Since I don't have the Brilliance (yet) I used a different kind of paper! It' s a modified version of a tutorial I saw on MelzStamps. I'll get a pic of it and post it here!! Thanks for your help!

Great, sounds like you don't have problems with switching stuff out and experimenting if you don't have exactly the "right" supplies on hand which is a recipe for having fun with your stamping!

Here is a pic of my first card. I did it from a tutorial at Melz Stamps. it was so pretty - it really inspired me to dig in to all this stuff!! Here is the card. What's the best forum in here to share your work? This is fun!! P.S. I got some brilliance ink today too!!!

Depends on what you are doing...for sentiments/writing I always use my printer with the transparency or glossy photo paper setting, always works, just let it dry a bit before you touch it.

I have also used StazOn with good results. If you need to stamp a color on it I suggest a clear detail embossing powder on top, then carefully! heat set it just enough to melt the powder or vellum may burn, (one helpful tip I found on here somewhere is to cover a clipboard with tinfoil, works like a charm...the clip holds the paper keeping it from curling and the tinfoil heats from the back evenly melting the powder)

Hope this helps!

Thank you @angelnorth - Brilliance worked perfectly after my first ink failed.

Instead of traditional vellum, Sheer Heaven is a product that has been around for a long time but I never really hear anything about it. It gives the look of vellum without the issues of ink not drying, warping when heat embossing, etc.

Pretty amazing stuff:

Thank you for posting this ... I couldn't remember what this "better vellum" was called. I hope to get some with holiday cash.

I saw this at a stamp convention several years ago, loved that it helped dry most inks and did it quickly: Perfect Crafting Pouch 101 - YouTube
