I LOVE my Tonic Guillotine paper trimmer! It's super sharp and stays that way. The 6 inch base doesn't take up much room too.. It' only $23.39 at joann.com.

I have the small Tonic and LOVE it. I'm saving up for the full size one so I can get rid of my Fiskars trimmer.

I have the X-acto from Staples. My DS gave it to me for Christmas & I have enjoyed using it. It is very well marked for almost any size you would want. The paper never tears and as long as you hold the thinner paper carefully, you get a nice clean even cut.

dangit!

The SU one is the 6 inch tonic isn't it? So for LESS money I could have ordered teh 12 inch one...

I'm not sure my demo has done my order yet so I emailed her. Either way I"ll deal though.

Another vote for the 12" Tonic. I have been through soooo many trimmers looking for one that I loved and I think I have finally found it. The great thing is that is didn't cost a fortune since I bought it from JoAnn with a coupon.

I have the Xacto with the laser. The laser is useful for example for cuts on a diagonal.

I have the SU one (which is made by Tonic, I believe). I love the 6 x 12" base because it takes up less room, but it has the little "leg" you can attach to measure 12 x 12"

I've been looking at that Xacto cutter with laser. Does it cut multiple sheets cleanly or are you cutting only one sheet at a time? The description says it'll cut 12, but I'd like some real life info on how cleanly it cuts that many.

Dick Blick has it online for what looks like a good price. Do you have the plastic one or the wood one?

Thanks for any info, Song!

I have the 12" tonic as well!

I don't use it as much as I thought, I tend to reach for my Fiskars one b/c it smaller.

However I do like it and I when I am cutting 12" pieces of paper, i.e. designer paper, I usually will reach for it.

It is also nice b/c it doesn't leave that hairy little edge that my fiskars trimmer will leave when it is time for a new blade but I don't have one yet???

I have this trimmer as well. I can do 2 sheets of heavy (SU or PTI) at a time, but I have to hold it tight. My issue is just with the paper shifting during the cut, not with the cut. I think I don't have the touch yet!

The shift ONLY happens for me with multiples pieces of cs. I think they just slip on one another, kwim? I probably need to hold it a lot tighter.

I just got the X-acto laser cutter (plastic one) as well (check Amazon.com.....free shipping! I even got $30 off by signing up for the Amazon Visa card)

I haven't tried cutting more than 2 pieces of cardstock at once. It's so fast and easy though, I prefer to just cut each piece separately. I'm getting more accurate cuts than with my Fiskar, which I still use for scoring.

Another vote for the Tonic 12". I have had mine since they first came out and I love it. And trust me, up until that time I think I had tried every type of cutter on the market! I also use the 12" Tonic blade trimmer which I take to crops and have gotten so many people that like it, one of the local scrapbook stores now carries it.

Do any stores (Joanne's, Michael's, or Hobby Lobby) carry the Tonic 12", or do I have to order it online? Would a 40% coupon be worth it to order from Joanne's?

Smile Thank You all so very much!

Just wanted to say Thank You so much to all of you lovely ladies for your help with what guillotine trimmer to buy.

I do have one more question though. I am looking for a guillotine trimmer that will cut nicely through the mount and leave me with smooth cut lines. So, have any of you ever cut through EZ Mount with your TONIC? Thanks so much again ladies.

I just got the 6" Tonic that converts to the 12" with the add on ruler. I don't have much space, this is light, doesn't have the big 12" base, and the guillotine cuts great! Nice and straight. I've waited years for nice and straight. I have a Canadian source at a great price for you.

K
JoAnn's has the Tonic and I don't see why the coupon would not be good toward purchase unless it is one of the exception items. I am gonna try it.

And JoAnns also has a 10 or 20%off offer right now...could be wrong about that.

I have the X-Acto laser trimmer, and LOVE it!! (The Other Meg, feel free to pm me if you have anymore questions.) I'll run and try to cut some ezmount now, and I'll let you know how it does!

................................
I think it would have cut fine, but there is an unremovable plastic guard thingy that gets in the way (the ezmount is too thick to fit underneath.) Does it work on the Tonic 12"?

I have the Tonic cutter from SU! and it does have the attachment to bring it to 12" out. I didn't even know there was a "full size" one that was 12" across and it wouldn't matter as I have nowhere near enough space for that!

I thought it would take me a long time to get used to using the guillotine cutter but it didn't and I love it. I can cut a very small width - 1/16th", I'd say!! And through three sheets of cardstock at once, too. Fantabulous. I LOVE it! No more crooked cuts or replacing blades!!
