I am looking for crisp deeply black inks for stamping sentiments, embossing sentiments, stamping images to use with Copic Markers and one for Watercoloring.
Please tell me your favorite Black Inks for each of these purposes.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Hello! I have used only Memento Tuxedo Black ink for my Copics for years. It does not bleed at all, and I get crisp clear stamped images every time. Tried other inks without the same success. I haven't done any water coloring so I'm sure someone here will add that detail. Good luck with your projects!
Versafine Onyx Black for anything that doesn’t involve alcohol markers. I tend to use Brilliance Graphite Black with Copics (quick blast with a heat gun if it needs it, never had problems with it smearing and it’s a good all rounder for other purposes).
I use Altenew Obsidian black pigment ink for stamping fine detail - also for silhouette stamping as it gives excellent coverage and is the best one that I have used - especially for my Lavinia silhouette stamps having tried most brands on the market. I usually only need to stamp it once whereas other brands I had to repeat stamp. It is waterproof and perfect for my watercolouring. as well.
I recommend VersaFine Onyx too! deepest and crispest. You can emboss with it too, if you're quick.
I find that I can use alcohol markers with it, if it's dried for a while (like next day) and I don't super saturate. Otherwise I use Memento Tuxedo Black.
Vote for versafine onyx for details, sentiments. I have embossed with it. Many people have said they like the Clair even better. Memento also for years.
Not impressed with the Lawn Fawn jet black hybrid-use for both alcohol markers and waterproof.
There are several hybrids out there that supposedly do it all. I think people like the Gina K?
I am going to look into that Altenew. Solid stamps can be a problem for good coverage.

Versafine Onyx Black for sentiments, embossing, stamping with water coloring. It is a beautiful deep rich black ink. I will use Versafine with alcohol marker's. I do a lot of batch stamping and then when I pull out my images I forgot what black ink I used and start coloring. I have never had Versafine smear on me with alcohol markers. I also use Ranger Archival Black and it never smeared on me either. The trick is to wait 24 hours to dry. Both those inks have been historically known in the stamping world as no-no when using with alcohol marker's. I never had a problem with either of them.
I traditionally have used Memento for alcohol markers. It's not my favorite. I think the black looks more gray. I heard really good reviews about Gina K's black ink that is a nice deep rich black for stamping/alcohol marker combo. I have a stamp positioner so I just keeping stamping with Memento till I get the black I want. I would replace it but I rather buy other things. ;)

Taylored Expressions has great inks for watercoloring. My BFF and I just spent a day using a new kit she received that was watercolor paper and brush inks. We stamped the image first and didn't need to wait at all for the ink to dry before applying the water and brush markers. That turned out great!!
Another vote for Versafine Black Onyx for anything other than Copics. It gives the best imprint and is excellent for detailed stamps.
I have tried Memento Black Tuxedo and Gina K Amalgam for Copics and they are fine; but, I recently switched to Lawn Fawn Jet Black and I like it much much better. I get a darker impression. Having said that, my friend still prefers Memento. Good luck.
I also love Versafine onyx black. I will often use it with clear embossing powder to use Copic markers. I have had it smear with alcohol markers when I don't do that.
Black Ink - Memento for Stamps and Coloring Altenew for sentiments
I have two favorites black inks and Memento is for stamps that I will be coloring in with Copic Markers. I let dry for 15 minutes before coloring with Copic Markers. For a crisp black ink for sentiments, Altenew and Versafine is the best. I didn't like Lawn Fawn black ink for anything. I am really picky about my inks and if you only want one ink on your crafting table, then pick Memento Tuxedo Black ink for everything.
Memento Tuxedo Black was my go to until I heard about Versafine Clair Black ( I think it's Nocturn). I was frustrated with Memento stamping well even after I re-inked the pad.
I used Versafine right after Memento one day and actually said WOW. It stamps dark and complete every time. I don't do much coloring so I can't address those areas.
While I have loved Versafine Onyx Black Ink (for other than Copic coloring) for years, I got tired of dealing with that flip-open lid! Why do they do that?! I now have a separate ink pad that I reink with Versafine Onyx Black Ink reinker and I am a happy camper.
I don't use alcohol markers much, but I do love to watercolor with ink from the lid of my pads and an aqua brush. Supposedly I should not use a dye ink for that, but I use Memories Black ink and either let it dry a while, or hit it with a heat gun. It stains more than other dye inks, but it also is really permanent, so I can watercolor with it and don't have to deal with Staz-on, which I hate---smell, staining, cleaner---all of it! It also works with alcohol markers, so covers both basis. It is a dark black and covers well. It is not embossible, except on vellum, so I just go with Colorbox for that.
i too was confused on what inks to use with copics and watercolours but have found 2 that work the best for me. Simon Says Stamp intense black is perfect with copics and colorbox archival dye works great with watercolours. i hope this helps!

I don't use Copics, but for everything else I've used Versafine black for years. The pads last FOREVER and I don't even think they make reinkers for them. I agree with the unusual lid style being somewhat awkward, but guess I just adjusted to it. I also use Versafine Clair in several colors and find it gives good coverage on solid stamps. Btw Jeanne 3579 I could easily become a sniffer of Stazon... LOVE that scent! LOL
I always used to use Memento Tuxedo Black for Copic colouring and Versafine Onyx Black for watercolouring.
Then I got an MFT Extreme Black hybrid pad and I now use that for both. I do use the Versafine for detailed images still tho for watercolouring.
Versafine Clair is also a good watercolour friendly ink I think.
I use all of them at different times. I find it interesting that there are actually so many shades of black..............I always just thought black was ....well....black.

Just a FYI - the Versafine colours don’t have reinkers but Onyx Black and Vintage Sepia do. They can be tricky to track down but they are out there if you ever need to reink your Versafine black pad!

I didn't know that there was a sepia one, I might try to track that one down. By the time my black ones need re-inking, the surface of the pad has become so beat-up that I always reckon on just buying a new pad. The ink does seem to last almost forever!
I haven't seen it mentioned, but I use India Black for almost all my black inking. It seems to work on everything. I've also used Brilliance and VersaFine too.

Joanne's "quick blast with a heat tool" is good advice to use with any ink!
I just successfully water colored a stamped image yesterday and used Versafine CLAIR with a heat tool (not a quick blast but not quite as long as waiting for powder to melt). I usually heat emboss all my images I watercolor if I can, so this was a big discovery for me. Just passing it on, heat-set Clair ink works with watercolors. XOXO
I am looking for crisp deeply black inks for stamping sentiments, embossing sentiments, stamping images to use with Copic Markers and one for Watercoloring.
Please tell me your favorite Black Inks for each of these purposes.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I vote for Veresafine Claire Nocturne for Sentiments, but I've quit buying sentiments with small text.
