I know lots of you use a white base weight cardstock other than Stampinup or MFT or Gina K. Can you tell me of a good one. I've heard of NEENAH but have never used it. I was going to order Stampinup but it seems they are out it. Does Amazon carry anything good? Thanks for your help.
Most use the Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110 lb. for card base and the 80 lb. for layering. It is great for coloring with alcohol markers as well as regular stamping. Stampin' Up has lost the paper mill they got their Whisper White card stock from and are replacing it with Basic White. There may be a transition period between the old selling out the new being stocked and ready to ship.
I have found the Michael's Recollections brand white 8.5 x 11 cardstock, 110 lb. is a bargain when you use a 40% off coupon. A few years ago they were having trouble with the bright white (had a grey tinge) but I think that has been resolved. I have stamped on it as well, and it's OK. If you use it as a base and put other layers on top it cannot be beat.
Last Jan I made my first purchase of Neenah paper and I LOVE it!! The 110 lb is super thick and makes a perfect card base. The 80lb is more like the cardstock I'm used to from Stampin' Up and makes perfect layers.
The solar white is very white and the natural white is more off-white

I always get confused with the card weight. I want super thick (good quality) for the card base. Does the Neenah Solar White #110 fit what I am hoping to achieve? Also, where do you buy from/best price?
A youtuber named Mary Polanco did a really good comparison video of the Neenah cardstock and another she found on Amazon that she found better and less expensive. I will link it below. I’m not great at inserting links. It may be from my Pinterest board where I saved the video.

Yes, Neenah Classic Crest Cover in the 110 pound weight is a heavy paper that stands up nicely regardless of how many layers you put on it. ;-)
I buy from my kind-of local paper store usually. But last order of 80 pound in the same line I ordered at Joann's on sale for a nice price. And I think I got a bonus in that it was the super smooth.
On another note, whenever I talk about this paper I try to eliminate the confusion that always comes with the long name...
Neenah is the company that makes the paper...the brand name Classic Crest is the line of paper, and it comes in many types of paper, from writing to cover. Smooth is the finish most people use, but it does come in super smooth, eggshell, and stipple finishes. Cover is the paper we all use, and it comes in several weights, from 65 pound to 165 pound. Yes, it really comes that heavy, and let me just say that 110 pound is "flimsy" compared to 165 pound. I would not even try to fold that heavy weight. In fact, I can't even imagine a use for it...and I ran all kinds of papers thru a printing press in my printing days. Weights of 110 pound and 80 pound are what most people use for card-making. Solar White is the color most people use. There are several other colors of white available, as well as cream colors, light gray, light blue and several dark colors. The Epic Black is luscious.
So...Neenah Classic Crest Smooth Cover in Solar White, 110 pound and 80 pound.
And that paper is relatively easy to find...many retailers carry it.
I used to get mine in small packs at our local LSS but when it closed I looked for it on Amazon for the 250 sheet packages, put them on my wish list and kept an eye on the pricing.......it can fluctuate. Once it got to an acceptable price I bought both the 110 and the 80 lb.
I got the Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110lb and 80lb from Joann.com when they had it on sale and had a free shipping deal. The free shipping might be on going due to Covid shopping restrictions- I haven’t check the site lately. As we all know, deliveries these days can take way longer then we’d like.
Forgot to say, I think you can use a 50% off a non-sale item coupon on this.
I had been buying Accent Opaque White cardstock (#110 pound) from Amazon. Cost-effective but really nice, thick cardstock for the base. Of course, now it is no longer available. Any other options ladies? I see lots of comments on Neenah White but it seems pricey even on Amazon. I’ll pay the price for the thickness. Any other options?
Looks like they also have card fronts and envelopes, but it is all 80 lb. That's not to say they won't add the heavier weight later, but I find that their own branded products are quite good. HTH!

You can get the Neenah on AZ right now for $25 for 125 sheets if you dont use it is a lot or just want to check it out. I save it for single layer cards.
I had gotten this accent opaque stuff McGuire has rec'red a while back but I cant find it on her site. I think it is fine for a base I will layer on.
I use CS for tons of stuff...so I use the Michaels 110 recollections for that. I could be wrong but to me, in the hand the Neenah 110 feels better/heavier. I dont like alcohol inks on this paper though. It pills when you blend.
I did get a bit of the 120 lb from Gina K I think-that is very nice. I dont know that I would use it though for a fancy fold.

I also bought Accent Opaque cover stock on Amazon and it's really heavy weight and white. I got the Accent Opaque smooth digital cover stock 100 lbs (200 sheets for around $15.00). I wish now that I had gotten more than one package because I can't find it anymore. Before that, I used the Michaels 110 lb white heavyweight card stock, but it wasn't as pure white. Good luck.

Correct! I bought the same on Amazon awhile back. Now, it says “not available.” Wish I would have hoarded at the time! Lol
Another one you may see recommended is Hammermill Premium Color Copy Cover #100 lb.
100 brightness
It is another lower-price option than the Neenah Classic Crest Solar White.
I've been using it for card fronts and find it to be a good option. It takes alcohol marker coloring well, though I believe it bleeds a little more. That last part could just be me...

Thank you! Had not heard of this brand. Just ordered a pak of #110 white from Amazon to check it out. Definitely cheaper than Neenah. Thanks for the tip!
I use Hammermill for most everything. I even color with alcohol markers with no problem. I usually let it sit for a while just to make sure it is good and dry. I often use it in my Misti and stamp over many times, so it gets a lot of ink. It works great in the Spellbinders Hot Foil system. I do not use it often, but I have had good results with Hammermill.

Just received my reem of Hammermill. Even though they all state they are #110, the Neenah Solar white is definitely a slightly thicker, better quality paper (also, a bit pricier). The Accent Opaque white paper is very similar to Neenah Solar but is no longer available on Amazon (Accent Opaque was a bit cheaper as well).
Hammermill reminds me of Stampin Up’s paper. Not a bad quality but I would/will use mainly for layering.

Now that you have it, I hope you like it. I guess now that I have a ream and it was quite inexpensive, I tend to reach for it before anything else. I have never used Neenah, so I can't compare, nor have I ever used SU white. I have used Gina K Designs thick white and Hammermill does not even come close. I also have used Hobby Lobby heavy weight white and it is thicker than Hammermill. It is wonderful that there are many options available to us on the market that we can choose.

I thought the Hammermill was 100lb not 110. I’ll have to check mine
Mine is called Color Copy and the website reads 110 Lb gsm weight. I bought mine mainly for the Spellbinders Hot Foil machine. It will go through my laser printer easily. Heavy paper will not.

I'm finding that some 110 lb. cardstock is just too heavy for most of the standard cards I make. I prefer the 80 lb. for those.
I usually use the heavy stock for boxes and other 3D items, or for cards that will be interactive. It's also good for shaker cards or cards with cut-out windows. Oh, and for cards with watercolor fronts.
Just checked my Hammermill - it’s Premium Color Copy Cover 100lbs. No idea why the difference between the two or if there is one besides weight.
Mine reads like yours. I know the website says differently, but it still works well for many things.

I just signed up for free on a site called Broken Carton. You can buy and sell there. They have the accent paper.
Edit: So...in 2021 I had bought a ream of this for 9.82 on AZ. The cheapest I see it there now is abt 20 if you buy a min of 8 reams. (25 ea 2-7) The shipping will kill you...it is another 52 on those 8....so that is 212 for 8 reams which makes them 26.50 a ream. Huge jump up...but still maybe cheaper than Neenah. I have to think about this.
But the platform is interesting.

FWIW, I hated coloring with alcohol markers until I switched to what Fionna is recommending here. The finish is soooo much more blendable than any other I've tried!

I also found that the price on this website is really high compared to Amazon. I bought it at a REALLY good price a year ago, but this is more than twice as much. Also, Amazon had free shipping, which is a huge bonus.
With every other craft supply that I've purchased in multiples and never used, why didn't I buy more of this basic card base card stock when it was inexpensive? Sigh..

The Hammermill color copy COVER is 100 lb, not 110. The 110 lb Hammermill is INDEX weight, which is not as heavy as cover weight. It's the weight of index cards. The 110 lb at Walmart is also INDEX weight.
The US measures in lbs, but the size of the paper being measured is not uniform throughout the industry. That's how you can have a much thinner paper seemingly as heavy as coverstock, but it's because the size of the thinner paper is much larger when it's weighed. There's only one way to be sure you're getting the paper you want, and that's by knowing the "gsm" or "grams per square meter", which is the way paper is measured outside the US. And I wish to high heaven the US would adopt this standard and we wouldn't have to have these discussions any longer.
This chart, from JAM paper, is the best thing I've found to decipher the jargon, at least until the US wakes up and starts using the international standard.

Thanks for the info. After having ordered various weights of paper over the years, and been disappointed with what I ended up getting, I did online research to figure out how to decipher different types of paper and weights.
The biggest surprise for me was finding out the difference between what they call Index weight and Cover Weight. Your referring to the weight of an index card is a one of those aha moments that will make it much easier for me to remember. Why did it take me so long?
As for the US switching over to the international paper standards for weight, I'm not holding my breath.

Another paper I love for coloring is Spectrum Noir Ultra Smooth Premium CS. It says 100 lb brightness and 100 lb cover weight. It does come from the UK, but I purchase from Amazon. It is less expensive if you find the pack sold by Darcie and not Crafters Companion. I use it mainly for alcohol marker coloring, but have used it for card bases. It folds well and mails easily. It doesn’t have the gsm on the package.

Thanks for the suggestion to find this on Amazon under the Darice name. It's a much more reasonable option as far as pricing and amount that you have to buy. I would probably buy it for alcohol ink coloring, rather than card bases because I haven't really found a good card stock that I like for coloring purposes.

You are not kidding. I think I just assumed it would always be available like Neenah bc it was in a bunch of places. Darn it!

Back to comparing white cardstock…I have been coloring on SU Basic White today, using alcohol markers. I am not thrilled with how it blends. I finished the card and left well enough alone, but next time I will go back to my other cardstocks for coloring. I still prefer Spectrum Noir or Hammermill. I have not tried Neenah Classic Crest and will do this one day.

Thank you to the people who suggested Accent Opaque card stock. I did a search and found it available on Amazon. I ordered the 80lb 216gsm white cover super smooth. I received it and it is perfect for me! It feels like SU basic white.
