Waterfall Card Tutorial Question

Okay... I need help and I'm not afraid to admit it. I am holding a Motion Card class on Saturday, and one of the projects is the Waterfall Card. I was going through Kathy Logans tut on how to make this type of card under resources. I understand everything. The one thing I have a question about the neutral cardstock you cut to 8 x 5.25. You are supposed to fold this in half, then you attach it to the color cardstock base that is 5.5 x 4.25. Why wouldn't your neutral piece just be 4 x 5.25? Why do you need the big sheet and fold in half. Is this so the card opens and you can write on the inside? Is this for stability, when you attach the strip to the small piece with eyelets are you going through both layers? Just needed some guidance by those that are experienced waterfall carders.

Thanks!

by folding in half the 8x5.15 your are just giving yourself a place to write. you don't have to do it exactly like that, there are many ways, its just a matter of what you like best. you could make the neutral paper 4x5.25 if you wanted, and then mount that on a blank card, or you could make the green piece of paper(5.50x4.25) twice as wide, fold in in half and attach the neutral on that. also the with the eyelets you can make them go all the way through if you wanted to, but its not necessary.
sorry i guess that was a little confusing. i hope it helped you.

I got a little confused with it also. I just took a piece of cardstock and cut it in half, folding that in half, just like a regular card. Then I attached the piece of 3/4 by 4 with brads directly to the card. So the brads do show through on the inside of the card. I think her instructions were written so you can hide the brads.
I made 11 of them for a card exchange club I am in, and got lots of compliments. I'll be posting the card as soon as I can get my camera out!
hope this helps.
