Using a small round punch, insert cardstock corner into punch while looking at the hole on the back, and punch 1/4 of the circle from the corner of the cardstock. To get all four corners of the cardstock exactly the same, you could mark the quarters with a Sharpie pen.
The ek success or SU! 1/2" circle punches would work for this. They have markings on the edges of the punch for centering. This makes it pretty easy to center the corner for punching. This is what I did for a while before purchasing the ticket corner punch. Hope this helps

I used a circle punch as well until I bought the ticket punch. If you have these Fiskars deco scissors, you can use them to make the ticket corners as well:
I have a pair of old ColorBox uneven scalloped edge scissors that I use to make my ticket punch corners. I got them for probably 50 cents a few years ago. The pattern is a tiny scallop, then a large one, then a tiny one, etc. I just flip the scissors over so the rounded edge of the larger scallop covers the corner, and snip! Gives perfect results without having to buy another expensive punch!
This place is so great, I was reading this thread thinking in my head "now if only they would tell me how to make a word window punch" and voila! Thank you for sharing this link!

You're welcome! Keep in mind that I would highly recommend getting both the ticket corner and word window punches eventually -- they will make your life so much easier! But I know it's not always possibleto get everything at once, so these tricks are helpful in the meantime.
truthfully, just buy the punch, it is relatively inexpensive from SU and once you get it you will wonder how you ever managed with out it.
It was one of the first punches I purchased and have never looked back
Is there a technique that I can use to get the same look, without buying the Ticket Corner Punch??
Any helpful hints out there, or should I just go buy one?
Thanks~Connie
WOW!! I wish I would have got on here a few minutes ago.I just won a ticket punch on ebay, after a few weeks of bidding. . Anyways didnt have the circle punch. But I do have the corner rounder and that worked just fine for me.
I know this thread is specifically about how to imitate the ticket corner punch look, but I thought I'd also post a couple of other fun ways to use non-corner punches to create different corner looks.
I used small circle punches, depending how deep I wanted the ticket corner to be (before I got the ticket corner punch). I would punch 1/4 of the circle from the corner. It looks great.

I was told that you can use a regular hole puncher. And while it did the job, I was unable to make them even, and that was making me nuts! So I purchased the ticket punch on Ebay for way cheap. I got it two days ago and I am LOVING it!

Believe it or not, I do not know any SU demos. How much is the Ticket Corner Punch? They go for quite a lot on ebay.

I saw the prices on ebay too. That's ridiculous. I can buy a small circle punch for way cheaper and I've seen some examples on here of what you can do with one. I think I'm gonna invest in the circle punch.
The ticket corner punch is 6.95+ shipping, and tax. quite affordable!
Which, if you bought it at a workshop or club meeting in my part of MN, would come to 8.14
