I knew there must be a reason I sold baking stones & tool turnabouts instead of stamps. Today I figured it out. I tried some of the new techniques. The foxy-oxi worked as far as bleaching out the paper. It turned it almost white. after I worked so hard to finally get color on the page (it was a bright color), it faded out totally. The page was so wet that the oxi clean lumped & wouldn't come off. It started to tear, so I let the page dry. Then the oxi-clean stuck to it like glue. I thought, as a last ditch, run some water over it. That did it in---totally fell apart (of course!).
Then I tried the Burned batik. First, I hadn't cleaned my powder tray , so I had glitter in there, plus my clear powder had specks of gold. I went ahead & proceeded. Burned is correct--I burned the paper. Then I tried sponging on the ink. I will just say my artistic 8 year old would do much better and even my non-artistic 6 year old could do better.
I CAN fold paper. I CAN cut paper & I CAN color. I think I will go stamp some In Full Bloom cards so I can color them. Kindergarten was very good to me. First I have to bake a cake for a show tomorrow. I CAN cook & find cooking techniques much easier!!
Should I start a new newsletter, "The Technique Flunkie?"

If it makes you feel better, most of us fail the first time at everything. We play and play 'til we get the hang of it. Keep trying, Kindergarten was the best 3 years of my life!
Pinkhedgehog, thanks. I might try one another time---MAYBE! I used to tell kids I spent 4 years in 2nd grade & then finally got to go to 3rd grade for 2 years. Their eyes got big til I added, "I was the teacher!"
Hey, i expected much worse! lol...i love it, "technique flunkie"...omg you are hilarious! i'll stamp for ya too, but i don't want cake, i want COBBLER! YUM!
You crack me up!!!!!! But I know just how you feel. I have a few foxy oxis in my gallery and a burned batik (actually did a little better with that one) the only foxi oxi ones that worked were a total fluke. I have a trashbag full of rejects. I had the same problems that you had, it would totally bleach out my paper and stick to it and it was a mess. I could never get it look like it was "supposed" to. And the ones I did experiment with when I stamped over the oxi-ed part it didn't bleach out the images like it was supposed to. Oh well, sign me up, I'll be a technique junkie too! But like someone else said, keep trying, you can do it!!! Along with failure you'll have success!!!!

having never tried either of these two techniques, I can't give you any tips. I gotta tell you, though, the way you worded your lamentations just cracked me up! I'm not intentionally laughing at you, but the way you told it was really funny.

Can I get on the mailing list for that newsletter. I had the same experience with both techniques, and to top it off my husband was laughing at me while I was complaining that it didn't work, and while I was choking from the scented oxi-clean. He had just happened to by the scented kind. So not only did it not turn out but i was about to be sick from the strong " mountain Clean scent" or something like that. He thought it was great. Oh and I forgot to mention that as I was choking from the strong scent that my 3 yr old son thought he need to pound on my back to get me to stop choking. And my 2 yr old daughter kept trying to give me her sippy cup and raise my arm as she was doing that. (My mom taught them to raise their arms when they are choking, seems to work )
So I guess it was pretty funny, but I think that it could be a dangerous technique. Oh and with the burned batik my paper got so hot it started to catch fire on the corner  (good thing i happened to be at the kitchen counter embossing at the time).
I don't know if I am ready to try this again anytime soon
Boy does that ring a bell with me! I'm a technique flunkie almost all the time. I subscribe to the Technique Junkie newsletter and my experience is the same there as well! I've finally come to the conclusion that I don't really LIKE a lot of these techniques. Even the examples given by the board do not appeal to my sense of style -- I like a more simple look. So, maybe that's why I think I'm a flunkie too.

THANK GOODNESS I'M NOT THE ONLY TECHNIQUE FLUNKIE!!!! I thought I was all by myself!!!!
Okay, I'm not a total flunkie, but let's just say that when it comes to techniques, I ride the short bus...and tend to miss it 4 days out of 5. Catch my drift here? Dufus. Dimwit. Embellishment challenged. Sniffed too much embossing powder, lodged in the brain cells.
My cards *stink*!! The only reason that I do movement cards is that people will trade with me because my stamping designs are *so bad*! I can't work on a canvas that small. Can't do too many techniques in scrapbooks because of a.f./archival concerns. I mean, let's face reality: how many people do you know that can seriously mess up Crayon Resist? 3 basic materials here--glossy paper, one crayon, and some ink. Not too difficult, right?
Oh, I'm so glad that I'm not the only flunkie! ~ K

Glad I'm not the only one, I swear it took me 3 weeks just to ink a stamp right! Some of these techniques I haven't even tried yet because I can only imagine how they'll turn out. I did catch on to embossing rather easily and have been doing that for awhile but you should have seen the mess I made the other day. I shook the powder off the paper but didn't bother to clean it up or put the lid back on my Versamark and then just a few inches away I TURNED ON MY HEAT TOOL
And of course it was black detailed powder too, blown everywhere and all over my Versamark. I can't figure out where these lapses come from! But I do have to say what everyone else is saying, some things just take a lot of practice, it took me several attempts to get crayon resist down. So hang in there!
In my opioion, techniques are fun and after we've stamped for a while we want to try something new. But the best thing are wonderful looking projects. When you cruise the gallery you probably think, hey that looks pretty or fun or whatever, but you don't think that must be a neat technique.
oh, oh! Lucy & Ethel, pick me, pick me! I'm as hairbrained as Lucy & more & more looking like Ethel!
I DID do a card that looked pretty good, but sealed it up to send. I watercolored & didn't even knock over the water cup I was using to refill my pen! (YES, it DID take me a LONG Time to figure out how to fill it. Still not sure it's right).
Maybe we should have Technique Flunkie class each week. Something like "Inking stamps" . I've been stamping several years now, so i don't fit in the "new stampers" group. Anyone want to present lesson 1?
I am rolling in my seat! You all are too funny! I haven't even tried half the techniques you all are talking about! Now I am going to have to try them all & see what a mess I can make!
I make great cards with stamps, but start throwing all of the other weird techniques into the loop & I get a little dazed!
