Tea Bagging?
What is tea bagging. I saw that listed on some of the samples but don't know what it is.
|
Hi,
I think you mean tea bag folding? (I hope!) You can read a lot about it here: http://www.teabagfolding.circleofcrafters.com/ Anyway, hope that helped! :) |

No, it was not tea bag folding. Under Techniques in the description it said tea bagging. I know what tea bag Folding is and there was none on this card. It almost looked like on the card they were trying to do an antique stain on the cardstock?
|
This is the card that I saw if you would like to look at it and then maybe you can tell me what they mean.
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...66177&cat=3465 I did notice on another card that was similar that under technique instead of calling it tea bagging they called it tea bag staining? |

http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...66177&cat=3465 I did notice on another card that was similar that under technique instead of calling it tea bagging they called it tea bag staining? I think she used a used tea bag (damp) to stain the paper - I'm not quite sure how it is done but it looks like it was set there allowed to saturate the paper then removed |
I found this forum thread:
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...light=staining And I found a GORGEOUS card in the gallery that made me try out that technique a long time ago. Instructions are in the comment sections: http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...tea%20staining Hugs and smiles. |
Sorry Carla! We must all have gutter minds today! :)
I think Kate is right -- she either used a tea bag, strong tea itself (I've seen Anna Griffin do that technique) or possibly tea dye varnish, tho I doubt it. Anyway, the tea stains the paper and makes it look aged. I have done a similiar thing with walnut ink. Here's another link for you -- http://www.wikihow.com/Tea-Stain-Paper |
Thanks! I think it looks so neat. Always looking to learn new techniques!

I found this website and it seems to explain it.
http://www.geocities.com/kraftprojec...ned-paper.html |
My mom embroiders and hand stitches A LOT and tea staining is her favorite way to make her white materials "vintage" and she's kind of "invented" a quicker and less messy way to get the same look. She buys Lipton's instant tea (unsweetened) that you spoon into your glass. She then puts that in a salt shaker type thing. She then uses a spray bottle and makes the material damp. Then she takes her "tea shaker" and shakes some tea onto the material. She then rubs it around. She then wrinkles it up and lightly shakes more tea on it (that time it gives it the darker smudgier irregular spots). She puts a metal cooling rack on a cookie sheet. She puts the material on the cooling rack making sure it's still wrinkled quite a bit and puts it in a warm oven for a few minutes until it's dry. When I made stockings for my family for Christmas, I did kind of the same thing, but I wrinkled it, and ironed it. It gave a similar effect, but my wrinkle lines were darker. My mom's are softer. I've never thought of using this on cardstock. Probably works well though...

OK, but now THIS naive stamper wants to know the meaning of the joke!!!
|
how to explain tea bagging delicately???
When a man dangles certain dangly things on his persona on someone else's face...that's the meaning of teabagging as I know it....

you know men
you know how men joke and play around my 20 yr old stepson and my husband are constantly threatening to do this when the other is sleeping...that's maturity for you. I guess the term "tea bagging" most closely resembles testicles??? I had never heard of it until I got married...that and butt waxed became a regular topic of conversation..who would have thought? Oh the mysteries of the male mind....

you repeatedly dunk a tea bag in your mug of water, yes? and he repeatedly "dunks" his "bag" into the "water" of the other person's mouth.... this knowledge has never affected me while making a nice cup of tea, but it does make me look askance at subject lines like this one as I hurry to see the real topic of conversation. ;) |

You guys are all so funny! This has been the best thread! Now I know if I really want to get advice on how to do a technique to make sure to come up with a highly provocative title for my post! (That's the reason I looked at this thread as well!)
Boy, and men think this stamping stuff is so old-lady, sissy, etc. Show em this thread! |

And to think that when I asked this question my mind was totally on stamping! That is how the technique was listed on the sample. Guess I must be naive too!
Guess I entertained everyone without even knowing it!! |
OMG! I'm over the hill & still terribly naive! I had no idea either what they were laughing about! You're not the only one "out of the loop"!!

Hahahaha. had always heard it, and wondered what it meant. hahahahahaha
|
Hi, I too was out of the loop and had no idea there was an expreshion like this! Don't know if I will ask DH if he knows it or not, I'm shure our 27 year old son knows it, will ask him next time I'm talking to him.
Thanks for the giggle this morning it's been great. Angel Faery Kathleen :-) |
When I saw the title of this post I thought - "No she didn't!" Then the more I read, the more I laughed. I'm 41 and have never heard of this up until a few years ago. Thankfully, we have an open line of communication in my office and I had a younger guy tell me what it was. I had to share this thread with others in the office. I guess we all need a good laugh and this was it for me today!

OK. I've been enlightened! I had no idea.
However, I did use a tea bag on a VSN card last weekend. It gives it an antique look. I used it on watercolor paper and then stamped the image on top of it once it dried. |
After a week of seeing this title pop up, it still makes me giggle http://www.cosgan.de/images/midi/froehlich/d015.gif
|
yep- the title intrigued me....must admit... how embarassed am I??? yeah right...if I were that embarassed, I wouldn't have posted, right????
Good to know the technique too! |
Everything you always wanted to know about Tea Bagging but were afraid to ask.....
If you Google the phrase "tea bagging", it will take you to Wikipedia for a very lengthy description. (Plus many other sites from Google-be careful)
Karen in FL PS I learned something new today!!! |
Thanks, I really needed this... I have been laughing as I read this. I never know what to expect on this sight. I hope someone learned something of value.
