Default Stamping with alcohol inks

Has anyone stamped with alcohol ink? (The kind that come in the little dropper bottles) If so, how do you do it? It seems like it could get very messy, very quickly if not done properly. Also, can you use alcohol ink with clear stamps or will it ruin the polymer? Looking for some advice on stamping with this medium...any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to be able to stamp on transparencies without having to go out and buy a bunch of Stazon colors. I'm hoping there's a way to do it with the alcohol ink I already have. THANKS!!!!!!:-D

I don't think you are supposed to use alcohol inks on any rubber, but i am not 100% sure. I know someone on here will let you know.

Alcohol inks are not meant to be used for stamping. You can either drop them right onto a porous surface, ie glass to make unique designs for background. You can also use them to die buttons, metal items...

I have done a scrap time episode demonstrating how to use them.

(my dh is starting the process of turning it into a flash version if you don't want to download it. The flash version will probably be up tomorrow.)

Thanks...looks like I'll have to go buy some Stazon colors. Darn! I was hoping there was a way to stamp with alcohol ink. Oh well, at least I have a reason to go shopping now. Hopefully, HL will put their ink pads on sale soon!!!

Well, you could just stamp in black stazon on the front of some acetate & the color the back with alcohol inks....
For fine control you can fill a waterbrush with Blending Solution & use that to 'paint' the AI's on stuff.

I remember reading something that Tim Holtz wrote once about this - he had been using alcohol inks with rubber brayers. Little did he know that the alcohol dries out the rubber and makes it brittle and cracks - pieces even come off. He said it ruined all the brayers! So don't use them on your stamps!

I also read the stuff Tim Holtz wrote about using alcohol inks on his brayers. Alcohol is really bad for rubber, degrades the material and makes them brittle. This is why we use baby wipes without alcohol in them for the same reason.

I have used alcohol inks with the shaving cream technique--no stamping required. I had good luck with it. I tried using it with the baby wipe technique, but that didn't work out. Good thing since it is so hard on the stamps, which I didn't know at the time.

Ditto for me -- just tried it the other day with the baby wipe technique... the colors were brilliant! I won't do it again - hope the one time didn't ruin my Fabulous Flower stamp :( I love the shaving cream technique though and now I can't wait to try them that way!! Thanks ... Any "first aid" for my alcohol-exposed stamp??

Dying your clear embossing powder with the Tim Holtz alcohol inks is a method that Tim Holtz shows on his DVD The Journey Continues. He puts a few drops of the ink into his powder and shakes it up. He uses the daily pill container to hold his color mixes. I think he may use UTEE(Ultra Thick Embossing Powder) but I know it works with both types of powder. The alcohol inks work because the alcohol evaporates. I'm not sure dye reinkers will work, but I haven't bothered to try.
