Default Plaid Maker

You are all so knowledgeable and wonderful so I am asking for your help. I would love some tips on the plaid maker. I have the small one but unsure what works best. Can anyone help?

I have the small plaidmaker as well. One thing that I have found that works really well is to use the daubers with the ink.

Almost everyone I know uses their brayer with the sponge roller. So of course, I'm different! I cut up a sponge into 4 pieces. The first color I used I rubbed - hated the screechy sound it was making. So the next color, I just 'pounced' the sponge onto the paper. I love the effect, it looks a lot like gingham. The best tip I got was to make at least 6 sheets when you get your plaidmaker out. Haven't followed it yet, but I just might for Christmas.
Have fun, and do post the results.

I agree - definitely make more than one sheet when using the plaidmaker. I use the brayer and sponge roller. Not sure what I like best though, as I have used sponge daubers and the sponges. I personally don't like the "mess" it makes. I actually just used mine last night - I got ink everywhere (of course this could have been because I was tired) . If you use the brayer and sponge roller - make sure you clean your roller really well. I thought I had cleaned mine, but the green and rust I used last time mixed with the pink and brown I used this time. :(

As for tips on using just one of the plaidmakers. Put your paper lengthwise and sponge/brayer. Then shift the template/paper slightly and either use the same color or a different one. Then turn your paper and do the same thing - 2 times this way just shifting the template/paper some. Sorry not much help - that is all I can think of. :?

One thing I used to get annoyed at was the little corner of paper that goes through the corner tab (only one with a 8 1/2 by 11) and it gets coloured wrong since it is sticking up throught the template. I learned not to put it through the slit and just tape it down. Masking tape works best for me and causes the least damage when removing it.

I love the One Sheet wonder I just saw posted using the plaid maker.

Default Plaidmaker

Hi-- defintley use the plaidmaker to make more than one sheet at once. I made 6 pieces at one time for St. Pattys day projects and didn't use them all. Now that someone was having a plaidmaker swap, I was able to participate without getting the plaidmaker out!

Check out my plaidmaker swap in the forum!

I own the small one, but have tendonitis in my right (stamping) arm. I brayer the larger of the stripes with the sponge attachment, but am considering using sponges or daubers next time I use it. One gal claims stick one dauber on each of 3 fingers, inks up, and then applies the ink that way, using 3 daubers at the same time.

On the fine/narrower line template, I found I could NOT get it to show when using the brayer and it was KILLING my arm. Now, I use the brush tip of the markers now to just breeze down that line and no more painful arm nor poor results! Worked like a charm for me; I was about ready to toss the thing until someone else shared that tip with me . . .

HTH,

Here's a tip:

Wear a protective glove of some type. (latex, rubber, whatever...)

Otherwise, you'll end up like me...in the bathroom with a bar of Lava soap and a loofah sponge trying to get the ink off your fingertips....
