Default pearl ex....please help!

Posted in the demo chit chat forum, but not getting any bites....think I titled it wrong as I never said "help!" on it, so hoping it'll maybe get me some more advice here......copy and paste time........

I love the stuff, I really really do, but not on the things I make!! I've seen sooooo many beautiful things made with pearl ex, but everything I try seems to turn into a big mess. Heated pearls.......I actually think this turned out ok, I just can't seem to think of a way to make it look good on the card ideas I have, so I'll work on that. Melted pearls............Yikes, by the time I was done, I had such a dusting of pearl ex everywhere else on my page, that it just looked awful, and no amount of rubbing it with anything seems to help enough to make it nice enough to show anyone. Same thing happens when I use the pearl ex on versa mark......ends up everywhere. Is that normal, and I should just incoorporate it into my project......slight pearl ex shine on all of it, and more pearl ex shine on the parts I'm aiming for? I'd really like to demonstrate the pearl ex at my next workshop, but really don't want to make a fool of myself by making something that's not eye-pleasing.....any help would be appreciated!

Post Pearl Ex Ideas

PM me with your email address and I think that I can provide you with some ideas for Pearl Ex how-tos. Have you tried painting with pearl ex? Use lumiere and mix with pearl ex. It really works and doesn't end up all over.

When I first started with Pearl-ex, I hated it. It seemed to be just a big shiny cloud on my card stock. Then, I discovered swiffers. After you stamp you image with versamark and then dab ob your pearl-ex, rub over the entire thing with a swiffer. It comes up soooo clean, you won't believe the detail you can get.

Thank you so much you guys.......I was getting so frustrated, and so badly want to WOW my customers (which are few since I'm pretty new), and keep them interested in new things.

Oh, and I forgot to ask this.....would dryer sheets work like a swiffer, or am I way off base?

I don't know about dryer sheets. The swiffer really grabs the excess, like dust, KWIM? I would think dryer sheets have a little fabric softner in them and might leave a stain. But I'm not sure on that.

Swiffer the dusting cloth?? That is an AWESOME TIP!! What a great idea! I'm pulling that stuff out of my cleaning closet and putting them in my scrap room right now!!! (...along with diaper wipes, floor polish.....) LOL

Thanks for sharing!

I haven't done anything with pearl-ex yet so I am reading intently. Sounds like you stamp with versamark then spinkle pearl-ex on top of that? Then use the swiffer cloths to get rid of excess?
So you emboss it, spray with hair spray or just leave it alone?
I am excited to give it a while after I figure out what is going on.
Thanks for the post.

Sorry you didn't get the help you were looking for on the Demo side. I saw that you were frustrated in the mess of PE and advised you about the swiffers......

My absolute favorite pearl-ex technique is painted pearls. I emboss my image, then color it in using an aqua pen filled with future floor wax dipped into the pearl-ex. The wax seals the p-e so it doesn't get anywhere. I like to emboss the image b/c it helps me stay in the lines, lol! Here's a sample from my gallery:

Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

My second favorite is pearly window. A little messier, but fun effect. There's a tutorial in the resources section. Here's a sample:

HTH!! BTW, my pearl-ex sat in a drawer for years until I found some fun techniques on SCS.

Ooooo, Swiffers! Gonna have to try that one. I've been happy so far by Stamp in Versamark - dust Pearl Ex on with soft bristle paint brush - wait five minutes - burnish with paper towel. I'll bet Swiffers leave less dust mess on my desk!

Thanks for the post.
I don't sprinkle pearl ex, I just use a q-tip to apply, a little goes a long way. usually you can get it right off the cap. Diane

Thanks Diane, that worked awesome! I love the shine when you turn the card side to side. So pretty. Now I want all of the colors! LOL
