I was backing up my computer files today and found a bunch of old CD's that had files saved on them, but I could not delete them because I closed the CD's. So then I was going to start throwing them away and then I had a handful of CD cases. I started to think, what could I do with these. I know I have tons of old CD's saved in a drawer because I use them for palettes, but I don't need all of them for that. Any ideas?!? I'm having such problems navigating SCS today, that my searches aren't working.
Wow, is the searching thing slow today!! But like IMBlessed5 says, you can store the unmounted sets in there (I use them for Angel Co stamps and it works beautifully), and the CD calendars are very cute. You can check out Suzyq01's gallery for her examples and she posts the template for the calendar too! For the CD themselves, there are instructions on a very cute CD scrapbook using the CD's as front and back and card stock for the pages , and one that uses CD's all the way through, front and back (the pages are CDs covered in paper). If I could find it I'd tell you where to look but if you go to the Anything but a Card gallery, they should be there. People have used the CD itself for an ornament too and I saw a suncatcher too that was very cute, mobiles as well. In looking, I saw a CD travel game done by Skernal3 which I had not seen before that was very cute. She has downloads for the game pages and they store in the plastic CD case (again, all of these use the thicker CD case, not the jewel ones). So try those out and maybe search on a 'better' day for the database! mary
the cd cases are the slimline cases and I do not own any unmounted stamps. Any other ideas. I'll check out those mentioned above when the site is back in working order.
I just got some new stamp sets and saved the rubber that i cut off of them because I want to make a mosaic background stamp. I saw one here somewhere. It looked like a lot of triangles put together and made a cool looking background. I am going to attach all the rubber to a CD case when I find one.
If you heat up a CD, you can cut it into various abstract shapes. You can heat with your heat gun, or put it in a skillet with boiling water fot about 5 minutes, then use a hotpad to handle the CDs while cutting them. (If you cut the disc while it is cold, you take the chance of it splintering. HOWEVER... I have had pretty good luck using a metal cutting tool (Like a big scissors in the garage))
When cool, use DTP to cover with chalk inks. I sometimes do this pretty thinly so the silver kinda shines through. Heat dry. Stamp an image with Staz-On. You can add any additional colors you want. Heat set. Smoosh with Embossing ink or Versamark, and emboss with clear UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel). You might want to add a second layer of UTEE. (If you don't have UTEE, you can just put two or three layers of clear embossing poweder on it.) You want a smooth finish. You can finish by edging it with gold or silver Krylon. I often leave the raw edge. Stick a pin backing to the back, and just see how many compliments you get.
Gosh, I've inspired myself, now. Maybe I'll make a few today. ;-)

After I described this, I went and tried a few, and it really only takes a few seconds to heat the cd enough to get it hot enough cut without it splintering. There is an odor, but it isn't too bad. If you did it in a well-ventalated area, I would think it would be okay. If you don't feel it to be safe, then of course you don't want to do it.
