Default Newbie question--how to scallop?

I love the scalloped edges I've been seeing in the gallery, but don't know how to create them--how do y'all do it? I've been reading the 'recipes' but haven't seen it referenced--maybe I just haven't looked at the right example yet though ;) Thanks for educating a newbie!
Here's two examples of the look I've seen recently:

You know, I don't have any scallop punches, so I just use my scalloped scissors. I use a stencil to draw a shape, like a circle or square, and then cut along the lines with my scalloped scissors!

Default 2 Ways to Scallop Edge

One way is to take the guide off the corner rounder & put it up against the edge of the cardstock. Shift over & overlap the hole with the edge of the next punch. If you have a hard time seeing on dark cardstock, put a piece of typing paper under it.

OR....I have a video tutorial in the Video Gallery of my blog called "Super Scallop Edges". That's an even easier way to do it if you can be mindful of the math (the edge has to be at 1/2" intervals - 4" - 4-1/2" - 5" - 5-1/2" for example)

You can see it here. Hope that helps.

Ann your blog is wonderful!!! I am just in awe of your talent! My little boy and I enjoyed your flower punch video, he wants to watch it again when I'm done typing! lol
I only have an old creative memories corner rounder, I think the guide is integral, not something I can remove? I'll have to check with my mom, maybe her corner rounder is different from mine, she's more of a stampin' up purist ;) I don't have any scallop scissors, any recommendations on which ones are the best? I only ever had a pair of deckle edgers and they weren't worth the effort, messed up more things than they deckled! LOL

The first card by Kurtis looks like it uses the slit punch. The second card MIGHT use the retired SU corner rounder, but I'm not completely sure on that.

I've not seen a slit punch, I'm assuming it just cuts one scallop at a time? I was wondering how he kept it as all one piece of cardstock so it could be embossed like that...not that I have anything to emboss with! (yet!) LOL
Wow, ok, I love that it uses up scraps, but can I say that y'all must have some amazing thumb muscles from all that scalloping you've been doing?!? I think I'm counting that for exercise time today, my fingers are numb! LOL I used up all the scraps from the baby announcements I just made, I'll have to wait until the kiddos are down for the night before I can actually try to assemble a card though ;) Thanks so much for the tips!

Default Slit Punch/Corner Rounders

The slit punch works as well, but the corner rounders (AND the slit punch as well) are only $5 or $6 so they're really inexpensive to add to your collection.

Thanks for the kudos on the videos.

Default Scallops

Stampin Up sells a set of scallops. #111066 for $27.95. Four different scallops that you can stamp whatever color, embossed paper, etc. and then you cut out to your desired size. It's on page 111 in the Spring-Summer catalog and you can see it on line. I'm not a demo-just a scallop lover also.

If you have circle punches you can use those too for a similar effect (although not easily if you want to do the embossing trick - although I guess you could just stick the circles to a mat and then run the whole lot through). Here's one I did to frame an image: Handful of Love by Angelnorth at Splitcoaststampers

Fiskars has a new border punch out that makes a scalloped edge with a little hole in each scallop. It's called "Threading Water" and sometimes Michaels has it in stock. They cost $14.99, but with a coupon they are pretty affordable.

SU will also have a scallop border punch in the new catalog coming out in August.

Ooo, very cool! I haven't purchased anything new in a long time, I think I'll start saving now so I can place an order in August! Is there somewhere you can see it now, or not until August? (I don't have a local demonstrator, my neighbor used to be but she quit when her little girl was born.)

Thanks Ann! You saved me hours of work! Didn't think to take the guide off the punch!

I use my MS Word 'Insert' (to draw circles, squares, whatever); to whatever shape/size I want, print it out and then use my scalllop scissors and cut around the outlines. Beats paying a huge amount of money at craft stores to buy different size scallop punches.

Default Corner rounder punches

A.C. Moore/Michaels/Joann - they all carry the "Corner Adorner" punches. I've picked up 3 different sizes, and with the guides removed, it really can make a nice edge. Cost wise, I think they're $8-9, but I never go to these places without a coupon!
