Default Masking Tape Background Technique

Saw a card posted in the SU! showcase, August 8, using masking tape technique for background. Can anyone give me the directions?

Default masking tape

take a piece of cardstock and cover it with masking tape. Overlap pieces. You can sponge on ink or brayer it on. Let it dry (don't use too much ink cause it will wipe off) and stamp inamges over it! I recommend stazon cause it shows up more than regular black ink. I like using the Late November spectrum pad with the brayer then stamping the leaves from Fall Whimsy over it in Staz On Black!

Hope this helps!

You can sprinkle clear embossing powder over the ink before it dries and heat set it, too. I like how it shines - just makes you want to touch it!!

Thanks for the embossing tip Mary. I have heard that it is a good idea, since many inks stay so wet, but I really was not getting the idea of what stage of the game to do it.

Thanks,
HeatherJ

I've always had to use the Clear EP or the UTEE Clear EP to seal the ink- I've never been able to get the ink to dry on the masking tape.

Default Masking Tape Technique

I cover cardstock with small torn pieces of masking tape. I then take a classic ink pad of your choice and rub all over tape until you get the color you desire. Cover with embossing powder. Tap off excess. Heat emboss. I only sponge when I want different colors.

You can also use shoe polish instead of ink if you want. It still needs sealed though.

Default masking tape

Anyone have photos of this technique? I have done it several times and do not like how it looks (or rather, I think it looks wrong). :?

I did a gallery search when I wanted to try one and came up with some great examples. There is a great one under Brushstroke Horses that I remember, I have one under my HeatherJ gallery - called Scottish Luchenbooth.

The search should give you a good selection.
