I have seen it done with dry adhesive (tacky tape) on the back of the paper. I used modge podge and it gave it a weather look and of course it glossy. I hope someone can give you more. I need to make another box soon for another gift. I love making them.
I cut my top paper in half - then use the Key Tag punch to cut out for the handle bases. I use modge podge to adhere the paper down to the tin. I cover up any "open" area of the edges (tho there usually isn't much) with some flowers using the Spring Flower Bouquet punch and brads. Using a "loaded" patterned paper will help to "hide" the cut in the paper. See pic.
Good luck - they are a lot of fun and get a lot quicker when you have more practice.

If you are using a provocraft lunchtin, then there is an acrylic piece that acts as a pattern for the top, you just trace it and then cut...I have it saved on my faves, but I can't seem to make the link to come up now. I'll see if I can't make it come up later and will post.
Thanks everyone...I have been playing around with it all morning. I must be really picky, because I'm not happy with anything I have come up with!! But, I was using a solid...I'll bet that patterned paper would be better. I saw the template...it's at www.thecardladies.com -- but I don't have the time to get it...since I waited until the last minute to do this!!
