Default Help! Trying to create repeated image background paper?

I am trying to create my own repeated patterned paper using one stamp. Big problem, the lines are crooked. Is there a good technique for keeping the repeated images straight? Do you draw a measured grid with pencil and then try to erase it? I have the "Stamp-a-mu-jig." But it seems so tedious when trying to repeat a stamped pattern over and over again.? To be clear, I am starting with a blank sheet of paper. I want to completely cover it with one stamped image, repeated over and over again. Is there anyone who can guide me in the right direction. A newbie would greatly appreciate some insight.

Personally I would go for a random pattern, turning the stamp (or the paper) constantly to make it look completely random.

But if you really want straight lines you could draw the lines on first, as you've suggested. Are you using paper or cardstock? If paper, and if it's pale, you may be able to create a grid to put underneath, that shows through (even easier if you have a light box) instead of drawing the lines.

Have you tried laying a ruler across the paper to help keep your stamping lines straight?

I'm sorry I can't be more help - as I say, I'm more of a random stamper! ;)

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I was hoping that somewhere there was a magic way to create an overall repeating pattern. I can see that I need to work out a method that is best for me. So it's back to the drawing table. I'm going to quit searching and enjoy creating. Thanks again.

MakeTime2Stamp (a wonderfully talented and generous SCS that I recently met IRL) has a tutorial on her blog. She uses a wheel and a stamp but hopefully you will still find it helpful.

Here is the link to her 12/04/2008 blog entry. It contains the link to a free download of her template:

Thanks so much for that link! I would have never thought of making the grid like she did!

Wonderful link. The paper grid is very interesting. I am going to try that idea. Thanks for the tip!

I'm sure Liz would love to know your results. Her SCS name is MakeTime2Stamp. The whole concept just awed me!
