Please can anyone direct me to the technique of embroidery over a CD, in a geometric design I have bought several cards but no information about the name of the art form or who made them
I have just looked through the Gallery for Altered CD, nothing similar here, I know it may not be directly card making related, but the product was used on the front of a card,
can you put a pic on so we know what you are talking about it is not putting a pic in my brain of what you are decribling ... i do better with visuals lol
thanks
Are you thinking of shisha embroidery like that done in India over and around small mirrors? I haven't seen it done over a full-sized CD, but why not? I searched for it on Google and found this: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&s...isha+em&aqi=g4
I think this is probably what you're looking for...
I do not have any instructions, except I know you use a dremel with a fine drill bit to create the holes in the CD's. You can use any round paper embroidery pattern, just enlarge or reduce it to fit the size of the CD.
I found that photo on picasa...just put "CD bordado" in the search box and you should be able to find plenty of photos. This technique is fairly popular in countries other than the US. As far as I know, it's just called Embroidery on CD's (a spin-off of paper embroidery). There is a book available--I will see if I can find a link for it.
Shell
indeed, you have to place a paper pattern on the CD, and drill all holes very carefully with a 1 millimeter drill (for the best result you have to place the paper on the shiny side : the drill always damages slightly the side it is coming out of the CD)
the next step is to do the embroidery manually with a small needle -- you get a special effect using a thread that changes color
Thank you Shell and NIki1, wow what a group. Is the name of the technique "picasa", all I am finding on Google is photo share program. but I am following through with it.
Niki your samples are beautiful and I have looked all through your gallery and love the "lace" folding, something new to look into too.
or convert any round piercing design to the right size.
I use templates for lots of things, pierce on a sheet of paper, photocopy the paper, this make nice dots appear, then copy and size that one to fit.
There are templates of all sorts from Holland. Try my card Embroidered and Pierced as an idea.
