Default etching on glass question

I tried etching on glass tonight for the 1st time using the quick embossing technique then the etching cream. I used the Lace Snowflakes set & was disappointed when I lost a lot of the detail. Can anyone shed some light on why that may have happened? Too much Versamark ink on the stamp? Heated the embossing powder too long?? I just love this set & am hoping I can figure out how to make the etching work to show all the beautiful detail.
