If I don't have a template that fits then I have a formula that I use.

Measure your folded card as it would be laying in an envelope (i.e. the height is where the folded flap will be).

Cut a piece of paper for the envelope that is width +1.5 inches and height x2 +1 inch. The extra 1 inch on the height is the overlap of the closure.

The side flaps will be 3/4 inches wide. Score and fold 3/4 inch on each long side then unfold.

Place the card below center (usually about 1/3 the way up from the bottom) and fold the bottom up over the card then fold the top down so that it overlaps the bottom. Adjust it until you are happy with it before you make your creases. Make creases then cut the 4 "corners" out of the paper. This is a very crude envelope which will look much better if you cut a slight angle on the sides all the flaps. You can round the corners of the top and bottom flaps if you like.

It sounds so much harder than it really is.

I do try to make my cards so that they fit my coluzzle envie templates but sometimes I have to make creative adjustments to the size.

HTH.

Here's a link to another post about envelopes & templates. I posted a link to Mirkwood designs, where you can get just about any template you can imagine (free download...just print on the backside of your patterned paper!).
