I just love the look of the embossed letters on the black tape and wanted to use it for card making--it's a retro thing with me, too!
Did you get yours to work????
It was such a cheap thing, I guess I shouldn't have expected it to work, but I figured, heck, it's not electronic--manual, so should be relatively EASY.
NOT. :?

Yes, I did get mine to work...but only from fiddling with it.
Mine embossed right away though...I think you might need to exchange. The think that I needed to play around with was how to get a "space" between letters and spacing and stuff.
I agree...totally cheap and you can buy the multi colored tape for really cheap too. I made a cute card for my little niece with the big flower from the love without end set and then cranked out one of those labels to lay on the bottom...it was really cute and really gave me the "retro" feel I was going for. Plus, cheap and fun embellishment (I like that combo myself).
I really think they would honor an exchange for you. I have had to do that without a receipt for a DVD before there and that is and even lower priced item.
I have one. I didn't use the directions, because I couldn't figure them out. We had one of these when I was a kid, so I remembered enough to get mine working. It does work fine. Where and how are you trying to put the tape in?
Hmm....I just got mine because I love the look for journaling little bits in sb'ing. I had no problems with mine though. Not sure what to tell you! If you had the packaging Walmart would take it back no matter what. You could still try...they do take most stuff back. You are talking about the one that is under $10 right?
I totally think they'd swap it for you. I have never had them not take something back. Go for it! You'll like it when it does work. Although my dh was laughing at me when we were on the phone last night...he said it was like being in the 50's (not that he'd know) with all the lame clicking of an old labeler.
I've gotten one and it's working fine. Did you know you can also put strips of cardstock and vellum through it and emboss those as well? With cardstock, after I've embossed it I like to highlight the letters with white craft ink or a darker ink than the cardstock so the letters pop out. With vellum, they turn lighter anyway.
Yes, Jan--that's what I got it also for--the card stock strips. I bought it quite a while ago and am now kicking myself I threw away the packaging and didn't really play with it to make sure I had a good one. ARgh.
I know--they are considerably cheap--it's just the frustration of it that bothers me most. double-argh.
