Default crumpled paper

I've seen so many cards with crumpled paper, they list a water bottle to wet paper, can someone please explain this to me, how wet the paper needs to be, is there a special way to crumble it, or do you just smash it up in your hand and then smooth it out?
Can you use the paper immediatly, or is it wet?

I spritz it with water, crumble it, and usually use a heat gun to dry and shape it. Hope that helps!

You just spray it to fully saturate it, then crumple it very small (the wetter, the easier). Spread it out, then either let it air dry or use your heat gun to get it dry quick. I do it both ways depending on time constraints. If you let it air dry, lay it between paper towels and put something somewhat heavy on it (not something that would be damaged by getting wet). HTH!

So it is time consuming.
I was thinking about doing it at my first open house, maybe not!

I have spritzed, sprayed, stuck it under the faucet, and at a stamp camp dipped it into a container of water. The wetter the longer it will take to dry (the heat tool is a good idea camsmom) but is more pliable. Then just start crumpling. Flatten it out and if you don't like it crumple some more. Also, try chalking over it (after it is dry) this really highlights the crease marks.
Happy Crumpling,
Anita

If you use the heat gun it really isn't that time-consuming. Maybe try it yourself and see how long it takes? It dries really quick.

I just did it, durr, should have done that in the first place, I lightly sprayed the paper, and then smushed it up, its almost dry just a few minutes later, with out the heat gun. (I have a heat gun, but its not stampin' Ups! Im a very new demo, and have had that other one for a long time. But if I have them crumble the paper first off, I think it will be fine, I'll run thu that later today and see how the timing works.

Hi!
On my first try...I totally soaked the paper in a sink filed with water, squeezed it out and had a messy old time spreading it out on the bathroom floor.
Then I blew it dry with my hair dryer.
The paper flew everywhere!
My Dear H. & Dear S's thought I had lost my mind!
It came out stiff and looked ok.

A friend of mine just misted her paper lightly, crumpled, smoothed, and air dried it. It was nicer. Her's was crisper and more 3D and natural looking.
I will do it her way from now on.
Hope that helps!

I learn something new everyday here.. I too have just been crunching it in my hand and then flattening it out, no water or wait time needed and it looks the same.

I usually hold it under hot running water til almost saturated, then crinkle it into a ball a couple of times. Then I flatten it out a bit, adjust the wrinkles, then iron it lightly. Not enough to flatten it out but enough to start drying it a bit ...then just let it air dry. I never hesitate to iron it if it doesn't behave after it's dry, either.

Hope that helps!

billsbrowneyedgirl,
We did a card at my last stamp club, and the demo had the paper already crumpled. She explained how it works, but since it wasn't the main focus of the card, it was easier to have it done for us ahead of time. Maybe this would work for you...
