I wish there were an easier way to do it, but so far the other methods I've tried haven't worked.
Maybe I should rewrite that part of the directions, since it is easier to start rolling from the end that has the thread tails attached. But then you don't have the choice of rolling it either dark to light, or light to dark.
Well... some people are putting ribbon blossoms on cards ;). When you use the rosebuds or roses on a card, though, it needs to be mailed in a padded envelope. I've put the rosebuds on things like tags for gift bags.
Thank goodness! I'm ready for some good news right about now. Your finished rose and leaves turned out perfectly.
I'm open to suggestions. If you have any ideas or can suggest a better method, I'll happily revise the directions. When others run into problems making my patterns, I blame my directions rather than the persons making them.
Hi Judi -
Sorry for sounding so negative! The pattern is just fine - I know that my "issues" were just the way it is making a project like this. The instructions and pictures in your tutorial were perfect! I don't think you need to change them.

Holy Cow! Fantastic thread!! ( pun intended, ;) ) Ya'll are fabulously talented!! I sew, knit, crochet and tat, but I've NEVER written inst. nor created my own patterns for anything other than clothes and accessories. Judi, I knew from looking at your beautiful roses that they would be tedious to create. Thanks so much for going to all that trouble. You have nudged us out of our comfort zones. I hope to try all these patterns starting some time this week. I'm elated that ya'll have kindled my needlework embers again. Thanks, Patter and Kelly too. missiowa81, I want to try your Mom's also! I'm soooo excited!!! Heck, who would fool with felt flowers if they could put their very own homemade, crocheted flowers on a card or gift? My DIL is a lawyer and loves scatter pins for her suits. I already have some pin backs so it'll be perfect to put some on her Valentine card! Thanks again and may God bless, Sandi

for sharing instructions and links to instructions and tips. My mom agreed to make some for me, since I can't do much beyond crochet a string of single crochets. LOL! She made some for me the other day and I will be playing with them this weekend. I left my yarn with her so she can make more as the mood strikes. ;)
I am having a complete creative block. I have been following this thread because I love to crochet. Now I have used all of the GREAT patterns and have some wonderful flowers. I would like to use them for Valentine's cards. This is where I am stumped.
Has anyone used their flowers yet? If so, can you please show some pics for the creatively stumped to get an idea?

I have some - either my blog or gallery - links in my siggy.
some on my blog too and in my gallery here i believe - i use them just like i would a pima.....i have other crocheted items i have been using too like hearts and borders - just something different
HI,
I love that heart thanks so much for the link .
Please can i ask how was the crochet border made that was used on the card.
The flowers with a button in the middle are lovely too .
Thanks Denise x
Ok here are the ones I made. I was going to take the pic with a quarter and totally forgot. The 3 on the left are about 1" in diameter. Both of the pink ones with the cream centers were done using the magic ring method for the center (as was the one on the far right). The cream colored one was done using the regular chain stitch method.
Thank you everyone! I just bought my threaed and now I have to dig out my Mom's old crochet hook if I can find it! Otherwise it is a trip back to Hobby Lobby for me, because I can't wait to make a mess of these for my cards! I have a feeling I may glue them to eveything in sight!
Thank you Kelly for making this easy! I have used up my #10 white practicing these flowers and I feel that I am ready to try color now. When I get some I am happy with showing off, I will post them....hopefully this week!!
What a great thread. I use to Crochet when I was like 15 or something but I haven't done it in oh 25 years LOL but I might go see if I can find that hook again. I had 1 small silver one i kept cause i use it to pull ribbon thru my eyelets. haha knew there was a reason i saved it. Thanks for all the useful info and great patterns...
That first set of flowers - those are just beautiful!!! Would love to find a pattern for something like that.... ;)
I don't know about a pattern, my friend was a knitting designer and does a lot of crocheting. I think she makes up the patterns in her head. I should have put a coin in the photos for a size reference. They are made with tatting thread and the first photo are quarter-size and the 2nd nickel-size.
Bethyblue--
Those steel hooks for fine threads are hard to hold. Try using a crochet hook that is ergonomically designed. There are hooks now that come embedded in a thicker foam/gel. I think I saw them in a Patternworks catalog. You could also try wrapping something like that spongy tape from the drugstore around the handle. Anything that would increase the circumference of the needle might help keep your hand from cramping.
I've been making some flowers too. They've turned out pretty good. Hope to use them on a swap soon. I agree that the steel hooks are a pain!!! The padded ones are much nicer and easier to handle. They cost a little more, but you'll save money on Advil!!!! LOL!!
Goals for 2015 50 scrapbook pages/50 cards---progress 35/50 cards Complete my daughter's wedding scrapbook album Spend more time enjoying my friends and not so much time obsessing on work!!!

I haven't seen the padded ones but what a good idea! I will try the foam tape stuff first. I did try wrapping packing tape but I just ended up with a sticky mess. Thanks, off to google patternworks.
Hi All.....I wanted to show off my flowers that I have been working on for awhile. Let me know if you want the directions to the double layer flower, I will be happy to send to you (PM me with your e-mail address).
Oh girls, I am SO sorry I typed in greek. I was REALLY, REALLY sick yesterday and in a hurry to hit the couch. Y'all gave me something fun to do when I was feeling horrible. I have good 'ol Texas cedar fever REALLY bad! I am a bit better this morning but still not normal yet. Here are a list of crochet abbreviations:
Standard crochet stitch abbreviations are as follows:
ch = one chain
ch sp = chain space
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
tr = treble crochet, or triple crochet
dtr = double treble crochet
sl st = slip stitch
sp(s) = space(s)
tog = together
sk = skip
rnd(s) = round(s)
lp(s) = loop(s)
yo = yarn over
MC = main color
CC = contrasting color
RS = right side of work
They really are easy to do. The butterfly takes about 10-15 minutes if that long. It probably would be easier to see someone do it in person though if you are learning. Sorry about that. Now back to the box of tissues! :(
Thanks .... I did not know how to read it and this really helps.

Cindy, you should totally open an Etsy store and sell these! They're adorable!
Yeah, what does "sl" mean? And what does "*" mean?
Talk down to us--it's OK, we don't mind!

How kind of you, thanks for the nice comment. I have thought of it before...just went and looked to see if anyone is selling any like mine....not that I can tell. Some gal named Mommasue has made some in yarn...6 for $3 with 6 leaves. Do you really think anyone would be interested in them, really?

Heck YES! Etsy is so easy, and doesn't cost much at all (like 20 cents a listing)...you should totally go for it! Keep us posted....I'll be your first customer. :mrgreen:
That's a fun pattern, isn't it Wanda? I do the same thing--omit the leaves and 2 colors. I use brads or buttons too instead. I haven't crocheted any in a while because the small hook has really been bothering my carpal tunnel. But I ordered the Clover hooks, and hopefully they will be here this week. I will be going on vacation soon, and this will be perfect for the plane (if they allow crochet hooks)!! :eek:
And thanks Cindy for the pattern. Once my new hooks are here, that is the first pattern I will try!
